I picked it up a couple of months ago at WalMart. I think it was in the $8.88 bin.

Pretty good movie. And King Leonidas even says "Molon ~~Labia~~ Labe" oh damn, brain fart. Anyway, you get to here it pronounced in Greek.

There's a book called "Gates of Fire" about the battle of Thermapoli (sp)???

Awesome book. Absolutely 100% recommendable if you are interested in the least about this battle.

I'm about 1/3 through. It's fiction, but I suspect the background on the Spartans is pretty well researched (fortunately the Spartans' penchant for buggery has not made much of an appearance)

I read the book last year. Good story, even if it's fiction.

I agree Aimless. I'll bet most of the background info is well researched. It gives a snapshot of Spartan culture.

The movie also profiles what made the pass an excellent defensive position (only one way to attack it), and then how it was overcome (an old goat trail was disovered and exploited to attack the Spartans from the back).
