First let me say I applaud @Ben for encouraging a lot of people here to join APC and be wise enough to help protect their families with additional training and knowledge. Last year I started a push-up thread in Fitness and Self Defense and some number of people followed it and started posting their progress. I'm glad they did. They were getting after it and even pushed me to be better. I'm grateful for those who said I inspired them. I love making a positive impact. In 2022, I plan on doing 65,000 push-ups. I'm breaking them up into 10k rep blocks, with challenges at the end of each. Starting January 3, 2022, I'm going to do 250 per day 4x a week. Each week will be 1000 reps and on week 10, I will do either 500 2 days back to back or 1000 in the same day. When I hit 60,000 on 04DEC2021, I did 1000 in 3h14m. I hope to be able to get below 3 hours on the next one (March 6). Block 2 will consist 1500 per week which is 300 per day, Monday through Friday. This will start 14MAR2022. 6 weeks at 1500 per week to be completed 22APR2022. I'll probably do another 1000 on either 30APR2022, or back to back 500s sometime the week of the 24th. Block 3 will be 400 per day Monday through Friday, which is 2000 per week. 5 weeks beginning 02MAY2022 through 03JUN2022. I'll shoot for another 1000 rep day the week of the 5th. I'm almost halfway there on this schedule. Block 4 increases to 500 per day for a total of 2500 per week. This is how I plan on finishing up the rest of the training. I was doing this back in August and reached 50k on 9/11 with 911 pushups in 2h46m. If you want to get after it with me, step in. You're going to push yourself, and you're going to see others push themselves. You will find success. So will others. You do not have to start matching my numbers. Do 5. Do 10. Push yourself. You can do it. As David Goggins would ask "whose gonna carry the boats" and Jocko Willink would tell you to just get after it and get it done. It starts next week. Let's do this. |

Why so many push ups , do something more that gives u better results. I used to go through a deck of cards a day doing push ups face cards can be 10-20 reps , numbered cards as face value. That's a lot of push ups and all I did was screw up my elbows. Do less push ups but do them much slower is the key , IMO. |

Sounds like a plan. I’ve got my own fitness-related goals to build off of the successes of last year, but I’ll be rooting for you. Personally trying to hit a 160-180kg deadlift (currently 145kg) 100kg bench (currently 80-85kg for a 1RM according to 75kg for easy reps) I’ll have a goal on Squat and barbell OHP as well but I need to find my Max currently. Double Press a pair of 36kg kettlebells for reps (I’ve been working with a pair of 28s for months) Pass a snatch test with a 28kg kettlebell (100 in 5 minutes) Pass SFG1 in June Compete and podium in my first competition at purple in BJJ (got promoted early pandemic and haven’t been in a competition since blue belt) |

I’m in to fitness… Fitten dis dick into, oh never mind. Lift heavier. Lean up a bit. I think 2021 was a good year for my lifting. Rehabbed a shoulder injury. Added a few lbs to my squat. Gained a few lbs of muscle. I’m moving this year, so I’ll have to break my gym down, jump over 4 states, and reset up. Overcoming downtime due to time availability, fatigue from the lack, drive, and move, and the gym being broke down will be my biggest challenges. Especially while waiting for our house to be finished being built. |

Quoted: I'm doing power cleans on company time right now. I don't know if my joints can handle that volume of push ups but I'm all about being more active this year. Crunches and pushups while I watch movies, weights at work, running 4 times per week. Watch out OP. About five years ago I worked my way up to 50 sets of twenty pushups 3x a week. I did them fast and bouncy. Ended up with nasty tendonitis in one elbow. Especially as you get older you should slow down and be sure the muscle does all the work. 10 4-6 count pushups will do you more good than 40 1 count. |

Benching 405 lbs is more impressive than 87 trillion Push-ups. And more functional. Op- no disrespect- it’s great that you have fitness goals and a plan to achieve them. Almost no one has a goal or a plan to achieve it. “I’m going to get jacked and ripped” is not a plan or a goal. |

I was able to get my bodyweight 10x on the bench this morning, and that was one of my goals for this year. |

My wife and I are going to tackle that same monster hopefully in the next 24-30 months. |

I could consistently rep 275x6 up to around 330 for a 1RM. I have no illusions that I could do anything like that right now. I'm happier to be able to do 80-100 pushups now in a single set instead of 3+ plates on each side of the bar. |

Quoted: NVM Didn’t realize this was specific to the OP goals. Not dong that. this thread is for anyone who wants to participate, and discuss their levels, and to encourage others to better their performance. I'm just describing the roadmap I plan on using, and if it helps someone, good! |

2021 I lost just over 70 pounds. Since August when my wife passed I have not lost anything, I just was not emotionally motivated. I tried stepping up exercise and that has helped me psychologically, but no weight loss. My fitness goal for 2022 is going to be to loose the last 25 pounds and start weight lifting. I used to lift but other stuff seemed to always take precedence. Nothing crazy, I'm 60 years old and have no disillusion that I'll be like I was in my 20's. Just wanting to build some muscle mass again. |

I'm 45 , have torn both rotator cuffs and the ACL in my left knee , 5 surgeries in the last five years. ![]() Just saying, all that repetition isn't good and eventually you wear shit out. I always had pride in my pull up ability not swinging crossfit shit either. Now I'm lucky if I can pull out 10 clean reps (overhand from a straight hang to chin over the bar) , my shoulders just can't do it anymore. I wish you all the best and good luck. |

Quoted: What is with these new years resolutions and has anyone ever stuck with one for more than a month? Always thought if I we're to make a life changing decision that right now is just as good a time as any to start. I don’t make New Years resolutions. I make lifestyle choices wherever and whenever needed. |

Always thought if I we're to make a life changing decision that right now is just as good a time as any to start. My 2021 resolution started 19DEC2020 when I did 30 pushups for the first time in about 2.5 years. The following day was 35, then I decided to start making new benchmarks and see if I could maintain them. I'm just trying to lay out a roadmap for someone who might read this and get the inspiration to get started on something life changing. |

I've gotten strong enough over the last year that I'm satisfied enough. I've had injuries before and they blow. Just turned 40, I'm OK with ~1200 total. I'm going to focus on adding some size mostly to my arms then lean down for summer. The SO wants to do some "fit couple" pics this summer so I need to get ready for that. |
If any of you get a Concept2 Rower, join the ARFCOM ERG team. ![]() ARF Rowing Thread My other goal is to get my strength back up while improving cardio. Finally rounded out the garage gym with a deadlift platform. Not as a new years resolution, the timing just lined up. |
| I'm going to start running more middle distance runs on the track I run at, might kill over of a heart attack at nearly 50 but at my age I can't seem to get the speed up to run fast enough in a sprint and don't have the stamina in a longer distance to get in a good workout so trying to focus on 1 or 2 lap runs around the track. The only weight stuff I do anymore is with resistance bands, and it is pretty light since my shoulders are screwed. |

My wife I and slacked off since just before Thanksgiving...I can feel it! We are back on track now, but it sucks getting started again. Regardless, we motivate each other and staying fit gives you more energy, you feel more positive and it facilitates our active lifestyle. I know it sounds gay, but we do the Chalean Extreme workout routines, weights are all dumbbells and it's three days a week and we do active recovery between with cardio and abs...workout is six days a week. Don't neglect your diet; the other half of getting in shape is in the kitchen with disciplined, and well-balanced diet. ROCK6 |

Quoted: Just keep at it, so many start off the year doing this and then by March they give up. Good luck. This is sage. I had a couple 10 day hiatuses happen last year due to being under the weather. Weakness was kept at a minimum for those times thankfully. I'm looking forward to starting tomorrow morning at 0700. |

Sorry, my OCD outweighs muh freedom units. I’m in Thailand and all of the weights in the gym are in kg. So it looks better to say 100kg than 221lb because 100 is a nice round number. |

I was able to get my bodyweight 10x on the bench this morning, and that was one of my goals for this year. Thanks man. I’ve been training BJJ for 6 years now. I was weak and fat when I started and then dropped like 50lb. After I got a feel for training on a higher technical level (a bit over a year ago) I committed to getting stronger. I may add Muay Thai as well, I’m in Bangkok after all, but it’s not a casual thing here if you actually want to learn to spar, not like the US. Most westerners who are here got hard into it before coming and the Thais my age (34) have been fighting since they were 6-7 and have retired and are coaches now. I’ll need to be in peak condition to jump in on that one. |

So today was a bit of a change for me. Shoveling snow twice yesterday from 1600hrs forward, I considered not making into the gym this morning. I knew I wanted to at least spend 20-30 minutes in the sauna and was able to do that thankfully. Someone there had this clear lapse of faculties when they turned the thermostat all the way down and failed to return it to the setting most people enjoy. I mean it was only 9° last night. After getting a good sweat, I proceeded to receive a text from a friend of mine and I asked him if i should do 50 pull ups today and 50 tomorrow, and finally decided I was going to do 100 today. First time ever doing that many in one day. |

If I ever get one I'll join I'm just trying to get back in shape after tearing my bicep tendon so got a trainer. He put me on a meal plan and I work with him 2 times a week. I just got fat the last 2 years only doing weightlifting. Got strong and competed in local weightlifting comps and for 1st for the old fat guys division in state comp. Love doing it but I just need to get health and fit for now. Then I might go back to Olympic weightlifting or maybe power lifting |
