www.cnn.com/2005/TECH/science/05/19/sumatra.quake/index.html

The quake released an amount of energy equal to a 100 gigaton bomb

Do the math... that's a lot of frickin TNT

Think about 100 Gigabyte hard drive.... that is 100 billion bytes of data.

Imagine each byte of data = 1 ton of TNT

That was the amount of energy released by the 12/26/04 Earthquake... 100 Gigatons.

Thats 100 Billion tons of TNT detonating. To put this in perspective... the largest nuclear device ever detonated was "only" 50 Megatons.

It's a true testiment to the power of mother nature.

Mankind is just an ant under her mighty boot.

Holy Crap! A 10 minute shaker!

In any magnitude over 4 that's one hell of a shaker.

no, but deep inside, I believe you need friends other than ones you need a keyboard to communicate with.

"This earthquake lasted between 500 and 600 seconds (at least 10 minutes)"

Last I checked 500 to 600 seconds is AT MOST 10 minutes.

Maybe time works different in the media.
