Anyone who doesn’t see this as a maneuver to establish a federal police force is stupid or woefully ignorant to politics.
This is an attempt at establishing brown shirts for the dems. |

You all are completely missing the point. Crime is a tool that allows pols to manipulate public opinion, push legislation and skim $$$. If we really wanted crime to go down we all know how we'd do that, and it ain't anything these Pols are doing.
1) Defund police and take a soft approach to crime, excess money is diverted to other things, which is skimmed 2) Crime goes up 3) Pols introduced more laws against the law abiding 4) Pols budget more $$$ for meaningless anti-crime initiatives, which is skimmed 5) Pols budget more $$$ for police, which is skimmed 5) Crime goes down or levels out, but none of the laws or funding is removed Effect; Pols enriched Law abiding progressively more constrained (which makes it easier for the Pols to do this same maneuver in the future) Law abiding pay more taxes Crime might be up/stable/down over the whole cycle - it doesn't matter Rinse and repeat |

Genius at work.
DC is on my No Go list these days, which is really a shame since I like the Smithsonian and National Gallery of Art. But I'm not doing the Metro, and parking near the Mall sucks. Another of my life's little enjoyments destroyed by the FSA. |

They'll arrest people on our side who defend themselves, their family and their property? You're calling people ignorant? |

All those millions of dollars that was appropriated for the police, then defunded-
WHERE DID IT GO? Now taxpayers are on the hook for paying police overtime, to handle the crime wave manufactured by the dem politicians. |

Quoted: Not the D.C. city council. Or maybe they did see what was coming and this is what they want. Dissolution of society and total lack of law and order so they can take complete control. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: Who could have possible seen this coming??????? Or maybe they did see what was coming and this is what they want. Dissolution of society and total lack of law and order so they can take complete control. Of course they saw it coming. What do you think the purpose is? A police state. Dems love police states. This is all part of the plan. Take away police services so crime spikes. Wait for the outcry and institute a larger, more powerful police force. Repeat if necessary. The sad thing is the cops are caught in the middle. A lot are leaving law enforcement for something less stressful. It is hard enough to keep the ranks filled as it is. Next time they will be scraping the bottom of the barrel. |

Quoted: A Tale Of Our Time EMERGENCY POLICE REFORM - JUNE 2020 https://dccouncil.us/council-unanimously-passes-emergency-police-and-justice-reform-measure/ Under the Home Rule Charter, the Council has two main ways of passing legislationa fast way, and a more lengthy way. It appears that both methods will be brought to bear in regards to emergency police and justice reform legislation in the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police and the national movement around police reform. At its most recent Legislative Meeting, the Council unanimously passed an emergency police and justice reform bill, the details of which will be discussed below. Emergency billswhich are used to tackle items that are time-sensitivedo not require that a hearing be held, must pass by a super-majority, remain effective for 90 days and become effective immediately once signed by the Mayor, and without the need for Congressional review. Regarding the bill's content, as passed, the measure:

Charles Allen, chair of the Committee on Public Safety and the Judiciary, opened the hours-long public hearing Thursday discussing the bills up for consideration and the need for a new approach to public safety in the District. "This overreliance on law enforcement at the expense of building up prevention and social services not only exacerbates racial inequity and fuels mass incarceration, but it fails to prevent crime and does a disservice to those who protect and serve," Allen said. "There are other ways forward, and our entire country is joining the District in rethinking the status quo. This was the challenge put to the Police Reform Commission, and I'm grateful for their service and hard work to bring these recommendations to the Council." The four bills being considered include reforming police pursuits; addressing white supremacy bias; officer searches of empty vehicles; and reforming threat assessments. Christina Lopez, who sat on the reform commission advised council members to trust the evidence-based recommendations. "Violence interruption programs, outreach and community investment are more effective at reducing gun violence, than simply adding more police," she said. "People are dying. We cannot be timid and we do not have time for cynical political games We need to invest in what works, not what sounds good to people who haven't taken the time to educate themselves." Ward 4 Councilmember Janeese Lewis George expressed her support of an independent investigator to review policing decisions. "The D.C. auditor is well-positioned to meet both of those requirements of being thorough and independent. I'm grateful that Chief Contee also recognizes the importance and urgency of assessing MPD ties to hate groups, and look forward to working with him the D.C. Auditor, and my council colleagues to implement this law if it is passed," said Lewis George. Some members of the public expressed the desire to see police officers out of schools, while others say School Resource Officers are a needed resource for kids in communities who face violence on a daily basis. "We've become a society that has become overly reliant on the police and expecting them to solve problems and provide solutions they are not equipped for," ANC Commissioner Trupti Patel testified. The bills being considered by the council now are below: B24-0094, the "Bias in Threat Assessments Evaluation Amendment Act of 2021" B24-0107, the "Metropolitan Police Department Requirement of Superior Officer Present at Unoccupied Vehicle Search No Jump-out Searches Act of 2021" B24-0112, the "White Supremacy in Policing Prevention Act of 2021" B24-0213, the "Law Enforcement Vehicular Pursuit Reform Act of 2021" View Quote OMGWTFBBQ!!!!!!! IT'S OPEN SEASON IN D.C. CALL THE PO-LEECE!!!!!!! - JULY 2021 https://dailycaller.com/2021/07/20/dc-mayor-muriel-bowser-police-overtime-violence-guns-crime/ DC Mayor Muriel Bowser Calls For More Police Overtime To Address Skyrocketing Violence July 20, 2021 Democratic D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced in a letter Monday that she is directing the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) to use overtime in order to address growing violence in the nation's capital. Bowser said the city is facing a "sustained increase in gun violence" and cited incidents this past weekend, such as the killing of 6-year-old Nyiah Courtney and a shooting outside Nationals Park. In the letter to D.C. Council Chairman Phil Mendelson and Councilmember Charles Allen, the Democratic mayor called on MPD to use "any overtime necessary to meet our public needs." "We have heard the calls from residents in our community most impacted by gun violence: They want to see a strong, sustained police presence," Bowser said. "They do not feel safe while the threat of gun violence looms. My charge to our police officers is to keep our communities safe and bring justice to those responsible for terrorizing our neighborhoods." There has been a surge in violent crime in D.C. this past year. MPD data shows the number of homicides increased 19% in 2020 and has remained constant this year, the Washingtonian reported. The D.C. Council's Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety cut more than $9.5 million from Bowser's proposed $578 million police budget for the 2021 fiscal year, WUSA reported. D.C. also reduced the police department's budget by $15 million in 2020 following Black Lives Matter protests, according to The Washington Post. View Quote You just can't make this shit up. It's all part of the plan 1. Defund police 2. Let crime skyrocket 3. Blame guns 4. Argue that if you enact gun control you can have the "safety" you want without refunding police 5. Enact a true authoritarian police state |

The lack of tax dollars coming in from tourists is probably a motivator as well.
DC is a no go for me unless its absolutely a necessary function and that isn't much these days. |

Austin city council pulled 180 million out of the police budget in two phases. Said they were going to hire social workers etc.
They never hired a soul or started any program and the money is nowhere to be found. When people demand an audit they just laugh. |
