The reason for the law enforcement marking on the mag is because you have a ban era mag. They were still legal to make for law enforcement, and as I understand it had to be ordered by the department, not the individual officer. Those mags were marked restricted use so it would be evident that it was made for law enforcement or military use and not legal for someone to own who didn't fit into that category.

In 1994 President Clinton signed the Assault Wepons Ban that (among many, many other silly things) outlawed magazines in excess of 10 rounds for civilians. Magazines you currently owned were legal to keep but all newly manufactured magaizines that had a capacity of 11 or more rounds had to be marked (and sold only to) military or law enforcement. It had the ancillary benefit of costing the Democrats the most seats in Congress in my memory. It seems odd to me that a gun person wouldn't know about the AWB that expired just 4 years before you joined the board but, maybe it's a sign that it's fast becoming irrelevant history, never to be repeated. |

A LOT of folks here were paying $25+ for NIW USGI mag's and Beta mag's were in the $700-$800 range and went pretty damn quick. The thing I like to remember about the "ban" was that (Although it straddled us with all sorts of stupid horse shit to try and get around) we DID find ways around it. I was working gun shows at the time and (As far as imported stuff went from the '89 ban) 922R violations "seemed" to be everywhere and it didn't seem to slow too many folks down....

I guess not, but Im the kind of guy who would see things like "PREBAN COLT AR15A2 and "Wonder what that Preban stuff everyone talks about means?" and go research it.
I was into guns in the 80's, but was too poor to be into the machineguns. Dad and I had the Polytechs and such, but it all meant nothing much, as no one in our area had a clue about them. We were the only non-fudd shooters in the area. Fast forward to now, and everyone at least has a little idea what a Black Rifle or something is. Just weird. I love this hobby so much I want to know all I can as soon as I can. Always been that way for me.
