It's really hard to imagine a gun manufacture supporting a candidate that wants to ban his product for sale to the general public... I guess he has to be hoping for a military contract?

That's where I'd put my money. Romney knows he's lower than dogshit with most gun people. He probably told Mr. Robinson if he gets his support and wins POTUS that lot's of government benefits will head his way. And then there's the Mormon connection. Hell if he's gonna go to the dark side might as well have gave his support to Hillary or Obama.

I think it is a combination of this and the Mormon connection..

Hmm, forgo the Second Amendment rights of millions of Americans and lose a fairly small market in exchange for a shot at a HUGE .mil contract that will be pushed by one of their "Mormon Connection" buddies.

Too bad the general election won't be decided by ARFCOM.  Ron Paul would be dead meat in a contest with the Clintons.  By the time the Clinton Smear Machine was done with him, he'd be the second coming of Adolph Hitler to the average American.

Same reason they would if a candidate paid for exclusive advertising at guns shows (Fred). The point is, most people don't research candidates themselves. They take others word at face value on who to vote for.

I see three posibilities:

1.) They somehow hope this endorsement will draw Romney into the good side of the AWB (long shot).
2.) There is some unseen connection (friend, relative, some exchange of $$$, comprable religion, etc.) between the two (not quite as unlikely).
3.) They just plain made a really dumb move (most likely).

I have not fired one of their weapons, like the way they look.  But realistically, do they really stand a chance at beating out people like FN and some of the other powerhouses with a gov. contract to replace the m16?  It doesn't look to me like they even have the ability to come close to meeting production quotas, they seem kind of small.

Here, from the horses mouth:

I completely understand the sentiments I'm hearing.   Ron Paul is probably closest to my personal opinions except his stance on Iraq.  Fred Thompson is also a great man.  Huckabee sounds realy good too.

Politicians are an interesting breed.  Take Orrin Hatch, a Republican from Utah who was head of the Judiciary committee for a long time, for example.  If the press pushes him on gun issues, you might get some answers that see a little weaker than you'd like to hear.  I think Orrin doesn't want to appear too right winged.  He does this so he can deal with the other side.  He has helped me on numerous occasions with gun import related problems and he's done so with no reservations.

Mitt Romney has flip-flopped on the abortion issue.  And it's amazing that he got elected governor in a liberal state in the first place. The reason he got elected is that the state was so desperate for leadership and was going broke.  Mitt had the background to get it done.   He delivered as promised.  Now that the Mass. boat is no longer sinking, they really don't need him and I'm not sure he'd win in Mass. again.  (This is kind of like Winston Churchill who save England and who was promptly ran out of office after the war.  Most voters have a very short memory.)

I am certain that what happens in this election will either make or break America.   Whoever takes office will have to make some of the most important decisions since Truman.  Our economic stability is teetering on a pin head.   We've relied on oil far too long.  We're trying to civilize the middle east and deal with radical Islam.  We're exporting all our technology to China.  Soon nothing will be made here and there will be no middle class if we don't stop it.   Finally, we need cheap clean power to begin another American Industrial Revolution.   This means we need to go nuclear.  We also need less government regulation and less lawyers.

None of the candidates except Romney has the depth to deal with these issues.  He could choose to come across as a Ron Paul or Fred Thompson.  If he did he wouldn't win the election in November even if he got the nomination.  I can assure you he is no George Bush.  Bush has made far too many mistakes.  I believe that Romney is much more intelligent than Bush.

As to having a stalemate in Congress being good - I say there's a lot of truth to that statement.  One of my friends in our state senate once told me that he tried to pass a law in Utah which required that two laws be taken off the books for every new law that was added.  I'm all for that.

However, America is in such a mess that a prolonged stalemate in Congress could mean economic doom for America.   We have to do something about energy, the War on Freedom, immigration, and over regulation by government to name a few.  If we don't get some effective leadership soon, we're going to be in a hell of a mess.

Sincerely,

Alex J. Robinson

Maybe their site has been hacked... maybe there is a reincarnation of Bill Ruger there!

However,  Thinking STRICTLY as a businessman... what was the most dramatic effect on firearms & accessory sales in the last 15 years?
The last few months before the ban went into effect and the months following the sunset of the ban.

The year prior to the ban records were set in the sale of firearms.  They could not keep up with the demand.  After the sunset of the ban everyone went crazy buying what they could not in the previous 10 years to de-ban weapons or buy stuff they could not in the previous 10 years.  So... as far as sales, the announcement of a new ban if it happens will send gun owners in another buying frenzy that will surpass the sale records set at the first ban.  As a manufacturer, a ban will sky rocket "preban" weapon sales, and after the ban they delete bayo lug and such and still meet regular sales.  Business wise a ban is a win win situation for sales.  We lose gun rights... but sales would skyrocket and another sales record is set... sales & profits are dramatically up!

I hope I am wrong with my speculation as to their motivation!!!
