OP, I'm a lifelong motorcyclist. I'm thinking if you made it this far without owning one, you can make it the rest of the way without owning one. Everybody likes the idea of owning a bike, it's the reality of owning a bike that some people have problems with. Get some training, then get some more training. Get a small cheap used bike and learn how to ride before you get a large motorcycle. View Quote I'm 49 and have rode dirt and street, and a RK for a while, since I was little kid. That being said, I'm in good shape but my reflexes aren't what they use to be so I hardly ride on the street anymore. It's worse than ever with all the drivers looking at their phone. Good luck OP. |

Best model hd builds in my opinion. You won't regret owning one. Get a 10 or newer. I completely agree with you OP - the Road King looks like a motorcycle! Red ps - do it |

I've had friends with Road Kings. Most eventually trade up for a Road Glide like mine. The frame mounted fairing is a huge advantage.

Take the MSF first, get good protective gear, practice what you learned at MSF in an open parking lot. Don't put your wife on the back until you are smooth with all of your stops and turns. Putting the wife on the back really changes the bikes handling characteristics, more weight on the suspension and higher center of gravity.
Always wear your gear and don't allow the wife to ride without her gear and that includes wearing boots. Google has pictures of what is left of feet that got trapped under a bike, you don't want a wife with a club foot. I agree with the guys who say to start off with a cheap $1-2k bike to practice on. Better to drop that than a more expensive and heavier RK. |

Just sold my 07' Road King Custom, and bought a 17' Street Glide Special. The new Road King Specials are pretty sweet though. Go for it.

She might catch the urge to ride 3. Riding tandem is much more fun than two up 4. She might agree with a bigger bike budget ETA: If the uncle lets you borrow it make sure he understands upfront that you may end up dropping his bike. Most MSF courses teach with very light bikes, I saw a lot of Honda Rebel 250's when I took the course. |

Just get one. Its my favorite of the HD line. I would prefer an Indian though.

I will never understand the desire for Harleys. Sport bikes, adventure bikes, and dirt bikes? Yeah, absolutely I can see the draw.

All you're posing as is a GSA owner....which is to say a guy who owns a GSA. No one really fucking cares where or to what severity you ride it. They're AR15's of the bike world, it's ok to own an AR and not do CQB drills with it. If you plink, you're not posing as a warrior, are you? Of course not. Adventure riding is about doing, not what you do it on. I ride my Strom in places very few owners will take theirs. I just did the GDR on it, in monsoon season....probably dropped it 20+ times in slimy silt and slippery rocks, and broke a lot of shit on it trying. But, I don't think it's posing if someone has one and doesn't offroad it. It's an adventure bike, not a dirt bike. I'm not some badass rider, either, I just have one bike and it has to do all the stuff I wanna do. So, it gets beat on. I totally get it if someone just uses theirs to tour or commute on. They're awesome bikes for that. |

Man get it done now! Bikes haven't been this affordable since AMF!!!!

I had a Road King. I no longer own a Road King. I now ride a R1200GSA. I let two good friends of mine ride my bike. They both sold their Harley's and bought 2017 GSA's. We all agree, none of us will ever ride Harley's again. (Sorry for pooping in your thread OP. Being a recovering HD rider and moving to a bike thats better in every way, I can't help my self. Not joking, go to your local dealer and test ride a GS before buying a HD. Most dealers have used GS's in the same price range as a used HD.) It's funny, my friends that just moved from HD's to BMW's this year won't even wave at Harley riders. Flame suit..... Never understood the Harley lust... you old guys must watch too much Easy Riser.
The sport bikes I can understand but why pick a 747 vs an F22? |

I have a couple sportbikes and a Harley Dyna. I wouldn't give up one for the other.
Many times I've been on my sportbikes and wished I could kick my legs forward and rest on highway pegs like I can on the Dyna. There are lots of long straightaways among the twisties. I think putting along at about 42 mph on a little country road is just right sometimes. |

You have to kind of condition your body to your bike. I notice a sportbike gets more comfy the more you ride it and your body conditions to it.
Shit I rode all day on my CBR1000RR a few weeks ago and only my ass was sore like on any bike. |

Fucking thing is comfortable as hell to ride. His is painted in chromillusion (sp?) paint so it really turns heads when people walk by it and it changes color. |
