Looking for a good gunsmith in the Los Angeles area, or anyone where I can take a Mauser to get the headspace checked.

Or any rifle's headspace checked for that matter.

Thanks!

There should be some but you should ask if they are willing to do the task.  Headspace should be  a fairly common task.  Also call ranges in your area and see who they recommend. Two that I know of are:

Hoag gunworks (Canoga Park)
Jim Davis (Agoura)

Whatever you do, don’t go anywhere near Bolsa Gunsmithing in Westminster. Poor quality work and a take it or leave it attitude. Hands down the worst shop in California.

Thanks.

I was talkig to Desert Rider, and I mentioned lytle creek. If it rains, then a covered range might be nice. I live in Pasadena, but I hit ranges all over. I`m fond of Angeles shooting range, lake Piru, west end gun club aint bad. Any other ideas? you can email me from the above link or

I know a great guy by the name of Dave Ransberger in Fallbrook.  760-728-5230.  Give him a try.  Super nice, honest and most importantly...does a good job.

I would personally recommend Evan's Gunsmithing, Shooters World in Orange, CA.  I have an AR from his shop, and his staff is quite personable, compared to the other people I've seen.  His website is www.egsw.com

Poo, I think we might be heading to Lytle Creek near Rancho Cucamonga, I like ASR but alot of folks live closer to Lytle. Not me.

Thanks for the email.  I unfortunately have work related stuff the next couple of weekends. But I'll reference your email addresses to keep in touch with you guys. Maybe eventually it'll be a regular thing (isn't this site grand). It's great for all of us to be able to plan excursions like this. Till next time you guys shoot a couple rounds for me.
I live in the south bay area of LA but will drive almost anywhere for some group shooting.
Have fun.

Angeles works for me on a Sunday. I'd be interested in going this weekend, since my girlfriend will be out of town, leaving me with [s]my freedom[/s] nothing to do.[;)]

When I need work on a firearm, and I have no "experts" for my type of gun, I always go to Martin Retting In Culver City.  They are expert in Mil. Surp. arms, and damned good with all guns.  Hell I got my first rifle, an Enfild .303 there back in '61 from them.  The same owners and the same gunsmith (Keith) are still there, a 3rd generation shop, they were, and still are the Kings Of Military arms.   Also Armory of Orange, in the City of Orange is a well respected outfit..  Good luck...Ray
