received my kta3-oc kit yesterday. opened it up briefly and all looks good so far. complete bolt carrier w/ key screws staked for those concerned. ejection port door on upper receiver was installed also.
hopefully, i'll complete the upper soon and try it on another rifles' receiver for a function test. thanks for the tip OP.. |

I got mine yesterday as well. it wasn't all parts like I was expecting. Everything was assembled. Well, I did have to put in the gas tube, and D-Ring assy. Assembled my lower and Wah-la, I have a gun ready to rock. ETA: had to grind off part of the little dog ear on the trigger. It wouldn't fit in my lower. No problem. 10 minutes with a dremel tool and a safety function test and I was gtg.

The kit I received was a bit more assembled than shown in the images provided by DPMS. Specifically, the ejection port cover and forward assist were already installed in the upper receiver. I assembled the carbine using a spare lower and a Larue BUIS. I do not yet know if I will run in to issues zeroing the weapon, as the front sight base is not "F-marked." I guess I'll find out that and more when I get a chance to test it at the range. Other observations: The gas key seems to be staked correctly. They could have gone a bit "deeper" on one side, but I don't see any problems. The staking is identical to that on an M16 carrier I received from Larue Tactical a few years ago. This carrier is of the AR-15 type, but with a shrouded firing pin. I inspected the extractor and found that the spring contains the "black insert". The barrel extension has M4 feedramps, but the upper receiver does not. The barrel is marked "CMMG 5.56 1-9" and the bore and chamber appear smooth and free of burrs. The trigger included with the LPK is surprisingly good for a stock trigger. The flash suppressor included in the kit is an A1 "birdcage" device. The handguards do not have heatshields on either side, and appear to be of a very different design (they have plastic "fins" on the interior). Assembly was uneventful, other than the somewhat large amount of torque necessary to align the barrel nut. I would estimate that it was somewhere in the 60-80 pound range. My wrench ended up rounding (but not destroying) some of the teeth on the barrel nut. This isn't the first time that has happened.   |
| Saw these kits in a Sportsman's Guide catalog today. $579 IIRC. For those who want a flat top upper(majority of AR buyers anymore it seems) the $400 is/was a great deal. I prefer fixed carry handles as I don't put optics on "naughty" rifles. Iron sights are just fine for shooting pepsi cans on the farm. |

I have a problem with assembling the trigger/disconnector group. When placing the disconnector into position, the trigger pin hole is miss-aligned, the trigger hole doesn't match up to the disconnector hole. All the other installs I've done fit correctly. What's a solution for this? |
| shot mine today. no sights, just shot it to function test it as its my first build. every thing went together very smoothly. Do not have a torque wrench at home but I have torqued tons of things in my jobs. went from too loose to tight real quick. hopefully sights will be on it soon and I can see how well it shoots. very happy so far |

Without the disconnector spring in, the disconnector and trigger should easily fit, allowing for the insertion of the trigger pin. With the pin in, there should be play, but this one has no play, nor do the holes align allowing for the trigger pin insertion. |
| I bought the upper + parts kit for $400 seems like a good deal to me. I bought a panther lower from a local ffl. I purchased a set of mpbuis from ee for $75.00 took it to the range yesterday and this ar just plain works. Sighted in the buis and then a Bushnell red dot. All with lake city ammo, runs like a top. Thank you Aimless for the link. All sighted in buis and red dot so wth lets see if it will fire wolf ammo. Good to go for another 90 rounds! It runs better than I expected, It will out shoot me that's for sure. |

Kit build went well with a Rock River lower until we came to the trigger. Disconnect\trigger would fit but wouldn't disconnect. It seemed the trigger spring was too week but that wasn't it. Turns out the trigger spring legs were too long and longer by comparison to my functioning ar15 by just a tiny bit. Once we cut a tiny bit off the two legs of the trigger spring the disconnect functioned perfectly. Just an FYI to those builders out there as it took a couple of hours to figure it out. We cut a bit off where the red mark is below.  |

I might see the problem and it's with the trigger. There is a ridge inside the trigger on one wall, near where the disconnector spring sits. The disconnector is riding this ridge preventing it from sitting correctly. I'll verify this with another build tomorrow, and then probably take a small file to that area. A portion of the trigger is too narrow, preventing the disconnector from running the entire internal length. I posted this in the tech forum already, but thought I'd put it here too. This is what I built my $400 DPMS kit into. Swapped in a few other parts and made a perfect starter AR for my daughter. I ran a few magazines through it to ops check it and sight it in and it didn't have a single hiccup. I did have to swap out the front sight post it came with for a taller one from Bushmaster.
