What special tools (i.e., not readily available at the hardware store) would an AR virgin need to build this? From the sticky in the build it yourself forum, it looks like an upper receiver action block, armorer's wrench. I realize I could apply that money toward a better AR, complete upper, etc, but I consider that cost part of the educational process.
What do you suggest for a rear sight if I'm going for a budget build? Anything else I should think of before I pull the trigger on this? Thanks. |

Yeah, I got their email also. Not bad IMHO.

Check the Build-it-Yourself forum on the AR section of the site. At a minimum, a hammer, some small pin punches: 1/16, 3/32, 1/8, a set of channel-lock pliers, some tape. Just be glad you aren't assembling an A2 rear sight. Sears has a basic set of pin punches to get you started. |

There are BCG's in both kits in that picture. Then in the descriptions, they include a disclaimer that the kits do not include cleaning kit, sling, or magazines. It would be very odd to make a disclaimer on those rifle accessories and not mention a lack of a BCG in the kit. |

I know some people will give me the  or  look but it's really hard to fuck up the headspace on an AR. Well, maybe I've just gotten lucky. Buy yourself a set if you're that worried.

Out of the many DPMS barrels I've had or seen, I've run across two DPMS barrels that were short chambered and woulnd't chamber a round. It's been a long time now and management has changed, but I'll never forget that. |

Heck check to see if the carrier key is even staked.  lol haters gonna hate  No hate here just facts––is yours even staked or is it loose even? You have a point, if the key is not staked it will take you all of 5 minutes of your life and a couple of common hand tools to do it yourself. Again, its a $400 carbine kit. They had to cut a few corners to get the price that low. If you order one, look at the staking and see if its acceptable. If not its easy enough to fix. |

1. Guys for the 1 millionth time yes our keys are properly staked. If it ships from our factory it's staked...correctly.
2. We use the "black" insert in the extractor spring. In years past we used a "blue" insert that actually had a higher durometer rating. 3. If the barrel is stamped 5.56 it is 5.56, nothing else period! |

If you guys who are bitching know of a better deal post it.
I don't own a DPMS but would have no problem owning one based on the rifles I've been around. In fact, if my bank account was in better shape I'd buy one in a heartbeat. I have a stripped lower just begging to be put together.
