This place is bonkers to get around. If it's a mile away it may be 30 minutes in traffic. Since my hotel has 9 restaurants and 4 private bars. . . .  I'm just bullshitting with the bartenders waiting for my Shanghai Lumpia

Here is the weird thing. I put on my BR jeans, my Swiss watch, and my Italian shoes. . . .and no one in the mall talks to me.

I come to the mall hungover in a white T-shirt and I have to literally push away the girls left and right. I think they are conditioned to only hit on guys they think are in the market. YMMV

This is the nicest hotel I've ever stayed at, and since I'm friendly and tip I think the staff far prefers me over the Chinese folks here

This has been a hell of a vacay. People are beyond friendly here, and honestly even being a drunk tourist wondering around the bad parts of Manila at 1AM. . . . It has felt fairly safe the whole time.

I would feel less safe doing the same thing back home on a week day in Pioneer Square Seattle at the same time/day of the week

Forgot to mention! Download an app called "Grab" it's like Uber so all preordained and through your CC.

Tip them a dollar or two (50-100 pesos) and they'll love you plus you don't get fucked over by taxi drivers charging you "foreigner" rates

It's Makati. There's pretty good eats at the Shangri-La Hotel in Makati. They may even have a free Tinikling show.

Maybe check out the Glorietta or Greenbelt Malls in Makati. They're pretty nice. That area around Ayala Ave in Makati is a modern city like anywhere else. They even did the Internet cabling right, unlike most of the Philippines.

The above is your typical street cabling in Ermita or Malate, Manila. Total chaos, worse since they got the Internet.

When I was there it was the Japanese who were the "Ugly Americans" of Asia. The fuckers were always loud, drunk and groping girls. And that was in the hotel lobby. I went to a casino and they were even worse. Surprised the hell out of me considering their history there, especially in Manila. Then it occurred to me that I should not be surprised, because it's exactly what they did all over Asia in WWII. That kind of behavior is frowned upon in Japan. So, once they are out of Japan, they are free to run wild, just like they did in WWII.

I have to say that so far the most outrageous behaviour I've seen was from some very old Chinese guys at a place called the cowboy grill. Felt very bad for their escorts lol

I'm single but dating over here makes me feel gross. I feel as if I'm basically their version of a 401k with a dick.

I went on tinder but I'll be damned if you can tell if they are M or F on there.

Met a really sweet girl in Puerto Prince. We made plans to meet at my hotel for dinner then she messaged me that she couldn't afford the dinner so she wasnt going to show up (even though I could see her outside looking at the menu)

Bought her dinner and drinks and paid for the trike home. She was sweet but looked like she was 15 in person (I'm early 30's)

Not sure what I was hoping to find over here for companionship but didn't find it.

Makati is an aberration. The majority of the Philippines is closer to Ermita or Malate. The really poor parts are like Tondo. It used to be very difficult to get a cabby to take you to Tondo, that's how bad it was. When I was there, Roxas Blvd. -- the main north/south road along the bay -- turns to dirt at Tondo. It's paved now, but 25 years ago it was a 6-lane dirt road with potholes 3 ft. deep and an endless traffic jam of diesel smoke spewing trucks. When I saw it, the first thought I got was Mad Max meets Blade Runner. I saw a teenage girl standing in front of her shack butt naked washing her hair like it was no big deal. No one even bothered to look. I also took a tour of the Pasig River area at night. Total culture shock. Poverty like nothing I had ever seen. And Makati is just one mile southwest of the river.
