New to sporting clays, I am using a 12ga pump and have had a blast the last 6 months or so....I have caught the fever!

Question is, what is considered a good/decent score percentage wise? 6 months ago I only hit around 25-30% of the clays, now I am up to 40-55% hits in Sporting Clays.

Thanks!

Generally, the guys that I shoot with consider 97/100 to be good or decent.

I consider myself to be about average by staying in the 70-80 range.

I have only shot sporting clays once. I broke 88 of 100 and I was extremely pleased with that!!!

On one stand I consider 20 to be a decent score, anything lower than that I I get a little down on myself.

I only go a handful of times a year though, some of the regulars get made if they don't hit 24 or 25 on a stand.

First time I ever went I think I hit about 5 total.

It depends on the course. If you're using the one at Markham Park, it's a very difficult course.

I run about 80 and I don't care that much ....... in it for the fun.

I'm an idiot, for some reason my brain was on trap when I was reading.

I just like to go. As far as score, I'm happy if I'm hitting 60 -70 %.

While I only shoot sporting clays once or twice a year, I like to see 75 to 85 hits per course.
Same with Skeet and Trap. I shoot those 3 or 4 times a year and want to be 21 to 23 per round.

The guys that are serious usually run 95% or better for clays and 24 or 25 for sheet and trap.

Those extra 20 to 25 in clays and 2 or 3 in skeet and trap are where the time and love of the games come in.

Depends on the course...Some can be pretty easy and some can be really hard. If you can do 60-70+ % on a known easy course or 50% on a hard you are doing ok for a newbie.

80's, to get high 90's you have to shoot a lot. SC is a lot of fun but frustrating

Registered Sporting Clays?  I did not realize that the world class talent resided in Ohio.   I will be looking for Ohio to dominate at Nationals next month.

OP:  A lot depends on how hard or soft the course is set.   Usually 50-60% is considered a very respectable score for beginners.

If it's a blind run on an unknown wooded course I feel good with anything over 50%. If it's a setup with multiple throwers on a skeet course I want 75%+.

First time I shot clays I busted 78 with an 870...haven't shot as well since...I think that I'm overthinking it now. There is one team of guys that are on the course that average about 88 for the team. Some of them are shooting the course about 2-3 times a month. I can't speak to the difficulty of the course that I shoot as I've not shot anywhere else, but I generally shoot in the upper 60's/low 70's.

My goal the first and only time was to hit half and I think i made it by a couple birds. I am pretty out of practice with a shotgun but at least once in my life I ran 100 straight shooting Trap.

As someone who doesnt hunt birds it made me really respect how skillfull those guys are.

My self and 4 other guys shoot trap on Tuesday nights during the winter. 22 out of 25 seems to be good. 23, 24 really good. This is for us. I was stuck averaging 19,
with my Remington 1100, so I bought a 34' Browning BT99. Now I'm averaging 19.

25/25. I've only been shooting sporting clays a handful of times but shot international and American trap at a high enough level for an invitation to the U.S. Olympic Team tryouts. "A decent score" is a relative term.

Decent is relative.

For true sporting clays without much practice, I want to be 80 or above. I was proud of myself last year at a fundraiser, I showed up without having shot in nearly a year and shot 93/100. That was a better score than I had achieved when I was practicing, go figure.

In skeet with any practice, I expect 23,24/25.

ETA:

OP, in your case with what you've written, you are doing just fine. Just keep practicing. Keep your head down and follow through.

Some courses are very easy, some difficult. Our State Championship courses usually had around a 90 as high score. We had much more serious shooters targets than most . If you are shooting clays at a range where you end up with skeet scores you are not challenging yourselves very much.

I got asked to join a league team this year.  It was lots of fun.

Last time I shot league, my wife was pregnant with first kid...that kid started college now.

Ended up with a 71% average.  That includes the score i got one night after getting laid right before heading to the course....I shot a 40.    I think my mind was still elsewhere.

I was hoping to get the average up a little more, but was still fairly happy with that, after not really touching a shotgun all those years.  Was getting 85 years back, so I've got a ways to go.

IN.

I'm going to blow my machine-gun fund on a fucking stupid blue and wood two-shot shotgun.

I caught the bug two weeks ago.

What do you guys shoot for shotguns?

I'm trying to find a decent Japanese O/U with chokes.  Nikko or SKB for under $1000.

Or I'll just tard-out and buy a Beretta 686.

I shoot mid 70s with a well-worn 870.  Every time I go out the itch to drop a few g's on a dedicated o/u and get serious gets stronger and stronger.

Haven't shot SC in 8 or 10 years but used to shoot between 30-40 out of 50, but once shot 18

FWIW, my BEST day I shot a 42/50 and my buddy, 44/50 and we were both shooting pumps guns, mine still camo wrapped from turkey season.
Really pissed off the trio of older gentlemen we were paired up with, whose guns cost more than my truck!
