They had a basic TracFone phone on sale and after a 1 year double min plan and the double min phone itself I got 1 year- 3 months with 830 minutes (no recharge for that amount of time unless i run out of minutes) for $111.00 OTD. I can't say if the other flavors/locations are better or not but it was/is less hassle for me and the phone has worked everywhere I've tried it so-far. My usage is less than 10 min per month on average so I could have got by with far less plan wise but I don't have to mess with the recharge thing. The down side is if i lose/break the phone then the min are not transferable. EDIT.....I did not realize it was for secret squirrel use.

If you really want it untracible buy it in one of the little corner stores that sell them instead of the big box stores, they don't keep video very long at all compared to the big box stores which store it for quite a while. It will cost you more but that is the best way to buy it yourself. If you are really paranoid you can pay someone you don't know to buy it but then you have to figure out a way to stay off cammera and still make sure you don't get ripped off.

If they REALLY wanted to they could trace the phone's serial number to the store where it was sold, then to the transaction number(they activate when scanned at the register) and finally to security camera footage of the buyer. So, don't use the phone to hire yourself out as a hitman or to sell(extremely) large amounts of drugs and you'll be fine.

Tracphones work pretty well (for a POS). I just don't use a phone much at all, so it's pretty much the cheapest option. |

So i've got a time and a location that the recharge was done, public library's have cameras. the open wifi point and an anonymous laptop might work, but you'd even have to take extra precautions with that if you want to be completely untraceable. |

You can buy them from vending machines so you don't have to deal with potential videocameras in the store. If you travel to Europe quite frequently, you can recharge them every so often to keep the number valid (or just buy another prepaid SIM with cash). A Lebara prepaid SIM for use in the UK costs ten pounds. |
