"Tired of bending over a stream to get your next drink with a conventional hand pump system? X Pack can make the act of securing safe water as simple as finding the nearest mud puddle or polluted stream.
HTI’s flagship water purification bag is the X Pack. Used around the world by the United States Marine Corp, Air Force, Army, and Special Operations community
, this next generation technology is now available to backcountry enthusiasts as well. No matter how challenging the conditions, the X Pack secures ten days
of pure drink from virtually any water source.
The X Pack requires no energy, fuel, moving parts, pumping, or chemical treatments. When filled with contaminated, dirty water through the large red port, the inner hydration pouch self-fills, creating up to 1.75 liters of pure drink. With each X Pack, this simple process can be repeated three times a day producing over four liters of pure drink every 24 hours
for ten consecutive days.**Note, only 10 nutrient charges are provided. A nutrient charge is required for the bag to work.** A second X Pack can supplement your backpack for severe water requirements.
Do you need HTI’s sports drink to make the systems work?
HTI products work on the basis of Forward Osmosis. Forward Osmosis filtration must use an osmotic agent (Sugar, or Salt) to create osmotic pressure and draw the water molecules through a semi-permeable membrane filter. HTI’s sports drink powders and syrups have been formulated to maximize filtration capabilities, enhance oral hydration and drink preservation. However, other kinds of combinations containing sugars/salts will function as an osmotic agent (Ex: Gatorade, Powerade, maple syrup, etc.)
When the bag is filled with contaminated water, the inner membrane blocks viruses, bacteria and parasites yet allows water to pass through to the inner pouch. HTI’s membrane is so tight that it has rejection capabilities two-hundred times greater than typical 0.1 micron hand-pump systems
. With the X Pack even heavy metals, pesticides and salts are reduced.
The X Pack works on the go. Once filled with dangerous supply water, the system is sealed and can be thrown into your pack and easily carried. Osmosis occurs in the background, and within hours pure drink can be poured from the clean exit spout. The drink produced is comparable in quality to water produced by reverse osmosis systems costing thousands of dollars. Stop carrying heavy equipment that can break or clog and enjoy the ease and simplicity of HTI’s revolutionary X Pack."
I've used this system extensively and I can tell you it works!!! Perfect for the bug-out-bag, car, backpack, cache, or just plain camping. You can get purified water from seriously almost ANY water source (don't use, salt water, anti-freeze, or industrial waste run off) other than that, knock yourself out. In a pinch, this has also been tried on urine, not that one would want to do this for ten days, I will say it has been done in testing for a short period.Package includes: Osmosis bladder, 10 nutrient charges (per charge 47 calories, 6mg sodium, 25 mg potassium, 12g total carb, and 11g sugars). Wait time for inner bag to fill is 6-12 hours, I've had good results at 4-5 hours with pond water. Package is 2.7 pounds. Manufactured 02/2005. Expiration 05/2008.Ratails for $64 plus shipping. Sell for $40 shipped.
Paypal and MO accepted.

Edited to add: The X pack system can be used as many times as you can in a ten day period. It takes 6-12 hours for the process to work, in warmer temps it takes a shorter amount of time (4-5 hours). So every 4 to 5 hours it could be refilled. It comes with ten nutrient charges, but you can use other stuff as indicated above to make the process work.
