What I have for sale is a Robert Parish Tanto 7" Stainless Steel Blade- Bead Blasted. Serial number 001. With black nylon sheath w/ leg strap.
I purchased this knife in November of 1987 at an outfitter store in Jacksonville, NC when I was in the Marine Corp. Here's a little history that I received on the maker and knife.
Robert Parish is in Hendersonville, NC and was the knifesmith of the Sunfish and Sunfish II. The Sunfish was used by the staff of the US ARMY's JEST (Jungle Environment Survival Training) School in Panama or was given to the graduates of the School. I am not sure, it's been almost 20 years. He made "8" of these Tanto knives. This one for sale is #001 and was made in June of 87. Mr Parish has since retired and is a life member of the Knifesmith Guild (and I think hall of fame?).
I spoke with Butch Winters of the Blade Magazine about this knife in 1990. Mr. Winters gave me a rough estimate of value at around $1500.00.
I have decided to sell this knife because I cannot bring myself to put it into service. The knife is not in a case or box, and does show some signs of discoloring on the pommel and the hilt. The knife has never been touched by a stone and has only cut paper and cloth for demonstration.
Because of the condtion I am only asking
