Not true. It was running an average of 2973 fps out of my 16" Recon barrel (one of Denny's barrels). It does feel softer than other brands at about the same velocity.

NATO specifications for M855 Ball require a 61.7 grain (q 1.5 grains) with a hardened steel penetrator at a velocity of 3,000 fps (q 40 fps) from a 20" barrel @ 78 feet from the muzzle.
Given that typically you can lose 30-40 fps per inch in a barrel shorter than 20", the Brit ammo is pretty much within spec.
