It pains me to do this but I need to sell one of my M1A rifles. The good news is that the proceeds will help finance a new Title 2 NFA toy.
Here's the deal:
Springfield Armory, Inc. M1A S/N 123XXX built on 12-16-99 and bought NIB by me on 03-03-00. It has exactly 542 rounds through it, all Portugese and British NATO surplus FMJ. It is sighted in at 250 meters. I can get 2" to 2 1/2" groups at 100 yards using Portugese surplus. You might do better. :) This is a plain jane rack grade rifle set up and ready to go.
I have shimmed the gas cylinder and installed a NM 0.062" sight. I replaced the commercial trigger group with an all USGI parts trigger group (H&R housing TRW hammer). It has a 2/61 USGI Springfield Armory barrel. Throat erosion reading is 0 (zero) and the muzzle wear reads 2 using my Brownell's gauge ( MW of 1.5 to 4.5 can be "new"). Head space is 1.632" by the factory tag and by checking myself with match head space gauges. The rifle has a Winchester operating rod, Kileen Machine & Tool operating rod spring guide, commercial SA bolt, USGI gas cylinder lock, commercial SA elevation knob and H&R windage knob.
The buyer also gets a NIW reproduction M1 Garand leather cheek piece, GI web sling, one ten round magazine, one USGI buttstock cleaning kit, factory box, paperwork and manual and CHOICE of either one USGI birch stock with the selector cutout OR one USGI synthetic stock with the cutout filled in.
Notes on the stocks - The birch stock had a Hawk dummy kit installed but has been removed and the bracket holes filled in with wood filler. I have stripped the stock and it has several coats of boiled linseed oil on it. The synthetic stock selector cutout and connector assembly area filled in with J B Weld. One corner of the J B Weld chipped off (see photo below). The middle portion of the stock was painted a mismatched brown to hide the gray color of the J B Weld. Yes, this stock is ugly but there's absolutely nothing wrong with fit or function. Besides, if you want a camo pattern stock, Karsten in Salt Lake City or Whamo Camo www.whamocamo.com can make it into a piece of art.
