I have always had very good luck buying and selling on the EE. I have only got misled a couple of times and the seller has always made it right.
I purchased a set of handguards from a guy on the board that had some good feedback posted about him. They were listed in the EE under the category "AR15 Parts - New - Uppers". The category was "NEW" not "USED", so I assumed they were new but thought I would ask. The following are the emails that took place between us and photos I took of the handguards he sent me;my first email to him
>I saw your ad for the Colt M4 handguards for $35 shipped.
These are Colt double heat shield handguards, correct? Are these in new or used condition?
Sorry for the questions, I have bought a couple sets and when received they were not as advertised and I had to send them back.<his answer
>These are in like new condition. And yes they are double heat shield. I take paypal but you pay fees.<after receiving the handguards my email to him
>They are not in the condition you stated. I asked if they were new or used and you stated "like new condition". I would rate these as 40% out of 100. They are not remotely close to what I was looking for. By the powder residue inside the guards and the wear on the back where they seat in the delta ring I would guess they have had a minimum of 1000 rounds through them. I want to return these for a refund.<his answer
>Let me get this straight. There are not scratchs or marks on the handguards and you are concerned about the powder residue? Let me know.<my reply
>These are not even close to like new condition. I have included photos of the wear and the powder residue. The reason I asked is because I wanted a set in a certain condition.<his reply
>Those are like new. Powder residue wips off and the marks at the end are the result of being take of handguards. Sorry you are not satisfied. How do you figure 40%? There are no external marks on the handguards when mounted to a rifle.<my reply
>These are not even remotely as new. Honestly, I have thrown away better looking handguards than these. I realize everyone has a different perception of as new. But these are not close. I have been building AR's for 20 years and never seen a pair with that much wear on the tail section, even on FA guns that were tore down and soaked clean numerous times a year. That is why I made it a point of asking you their condition, if I would have seen photos of these showing their condition I would have never contacted you.<his reply
>I have never seen a pair that did not have wear on the area contacting the delta ring. That particular set has only been mounted and removed once. Sorry but there are no scratches or wear marks on the external visual area of the handguards.my final reply
>I am done with you. This is not worth my time. I have never seen a pair WITH this much wear on the contact area. I do not appreciate being lied to. I feel sorry for you that you have to resort to lying for a measly $35 [+ Paypal fees]. I am a firm believer in honor, honesty and we reap what we sow. Karma will smile on you. Have a nice life.<
So do these handguards look "like new"?
