Hey all, I think i need to true my upper to the barrel. SI 16" mid YHM freefloat tube. 68gr  Privi match ammo. 4 power Primary arms scope locked tight.  As barrel heats up groups shift.  Midway has a lapping tool for $21.00 while brownells has one for $35.00. Does anyone know if there is a real difference between these two.

I would lube the bolt carrier and shoot the gun.  It will smooth out with use.  A lapping tool won't improve alignment and I'll bet it's okay anyway.

Does your gun have a light contour barrel?  Does the gas block touch the forearm?

It's a govt. profile with a shaved gas block. I can slip a piece of paper between the block and handguard. I thought that maybe  the upper was in need of a little dressing, if it was alittle out of spec maybe as the barrel got hot it moved the barrel alittle and then if the shaved block was just alittle close at that point the stacking affect might be coming into play. I am going to shave more from the sight block first. I was at the range yesterday and fired 40 rds. around shot 25 it shot 3 consecutive tight shots about 1 inch to the left. Let it cool for a minute started shooting again. First few hits were centered and then shifted over to the left.   Still all shots were within 2.5 to 3 inches. Brass ejecting at 3:30
