Was going through my knives the other day and noticed that my pride and joy Gerber multi-tool has small amounts of surface rust (no pitting at all, just small specks about the size of a pin head) dot the blade and other tool surfaces- I think that it was from a camp out a while back and the knife was used to sliced and orange - lol, so what are some recommendations to get rid of the dots of surface rust?

Steel wool and break free. Another great rust removal product is by Blue Wonder. It is not harsh and great for removing rust from Bluing and other finishes. In your case , with a stainless multi tool I would just do the steel wool and oil/clp.
