There were a couple kinds of high capacity magazines offered for the SKS, that supposedly operated like normal mags. In truth, once you got one installed, it was best left in..
Also, there were some SKS rifles imported that used AK box magazines. They would not take drums. As to a full conversion, I have never seen, nor heard of one.. My two bits? Find one of the ChiCom 20 round fixed magazines. They're plenty tough, and reliable. Meplat- |

I'm no lawyer, but you might want to check out the legalities involved in doing that. You could ask in the Legal forum on this site, or go to our own AK site (use site navigator above and to left), or visit www.simonov.net.
Looks like it's a no-no, read carefully:www.geocities.com/Yosemite/Gorge/4653/bardsks.htm |

I have an SKS Sporter that uses regular AK47 mags and drums. Its made by Norinco. It's more expensive and they are harder to find. I think I gave about $360 for it NIB a few years ago.
I have never seen a conversion for the SKS to use AK47 mags but I have seen kits you can install made by a company so you can use their detachable mags. I'm with 308wood, I'd leave it alone and get an AK47 or SKS Sporter. |
