i am in the market for a .22. right now the only .22 i have is a win. mod. 67. i like it a lot, it was my uncles gun and works very well after yrs. of abuse. i have owned various .22's through the yrs. -10/22, rem. viper, ted williams 190 what i am looking for now is a .22 capable of acepting a decent scope that will shoot .22 shrt and long rifle, that isn't tube fed.a bull barrel would be nice as well. these features, to the best of my knowledge, mean i am looking for another single shot. what is the best sigle shot in the $150 range. i read an article on the henry accu-bolt and liked what i saw, but it lists for $350. if i can't find a decent single shot i'm leaning twards a new 10/22. the one i had before was used and jammed a lot. any ideas or guidance is greatly apreciated. thanks, 2D2C |

You should look for a Mossberg 140 or 142 on the auction sites($120-$200). These were the late 40s/50's vintage rifles. The box magazine had a spacer that fed shorts or longrifles. The recievers were grooved for a scope, great triggers and equal or better accuracy than anything under $300 today. They came with aperture rear sights that folded out of the way for a scope. The heavy barrel version was the 144 ($200-$300). They can be easily single loaded too. Mossbeg info site

that mossberg looks good. my budget just increased to about $250, i've been selling off some stuff in the ee. i was wandering if all .22 bolt actions could be singly loaded, and also if they could would any that are chambered for .22lr also fire shorts in a pinch. i don't need to shoot shorts all the time, but i would like that option. does anyone know where that russian toz/whisper can be found, centerfire systems doesn't show them on their site anymore. ihave their oct. catalog that lists them for $99. also does anyone here have one or know if they are good? thanks, 2D2C |
| most oldie, single shots will deff not be a bull bbl, except maybe the mossy. their are a lot of oldie , bolt single shots, but they are sporters. otherwise , you could do a nef, send it off to one of the boys over at RFC for a workover, and you will have yourself a one hole tackdriver. |

A bolt action, magazine fed rifle chambered in 22lr will shoot shorts as long as they are loaded by hand one at a time. There are a few choices for decent bolt guns for $250 or less. Here are a few choices: www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/24445 Savage MKIIF 22LR Action: Bolt Caliber: 22 Long Rifle Barrel Length: 20.75" Capacity: 10rd Trigger: Accutrigger Safety: Two Position Length: 39.5" Weight: 5 lbs Stock: Black Synthetic Finish: Blue $166.51 Delivered The Accutrigger on the Savage is adjustable and can be set pretty light. www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/11852 CZ 513 Basic .22lr Action: Bolt Caliber: 22 Long Rifle Barrel Length: 20.9" Capacity: 5 + 1 Trigger: Adjustable Safety: Two Position Length: 39.2" Weight: 6.1 lbs Stock: Beechwood Finish: Blue Steel $223.71 Delivered www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/70280 Ruger 1022 Standard 22LR, Blued, Hardwood Action: Semi-Automatic Caliber: 22 Long Rifle Barrel Length: 18 1/2" Carbine Capacity: 10 + 1 Trigger: Single Stage Safety: Cross Bolt Length: 37" Weight: 5 lbs Stock: Birchwood Finish: Blue Steel $204.04 Delivered www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=85557893 Russian Tula Match .22LR TOZ-78 NIB $190.00+$25 shipping 10/22's can be modified easily and there are plenty of aftermarket parts available. You can start with a stock 10/22 and slowly, as money allows, upgrade it to make it a better shooter. 10/22's are just as addictive as BRD and it is easy to get over $1K in a upgraded rifle. You should wander over to some pawn shops. I see plenty of old single shot 22's there. Good luck with your search. |

pawn shops here in MS are a joke. they are way off on prices, asking sometimes more than retail for their often times "junker" guns. deals around here are few and far between. that being said i plan on shopping around a bit anyway. i don't have cash in hand so i'm not going on a "wandering" quest just yet, but it is in route i'm trying to come up with a plan though. so far i've only physically been to academy sports. they didn't have one adult size bolt action .22 and their 10/22's have gone up again in price $186 blued/wood and $226 stainless/synthetic. most wal-marts in the surrounding areas have stopped carrying guns but i plan on checking the one i know still does. it's hard to spend my $ on a .22 right now in this time of no-ban splender i don't have a .223 rifle yet and the thought has crossed my mind to pick up a lower with this $.anyway, seems i spend money many times before i purchase anything. |

I may be the odd man out but I shot one of the Henry Mini Bolt 22. I am a smaller 5' 7" frame but it is a handy little 22, but I just shoot with it to mess with the boys with there tricked out toys that they never shoot enough to shoot well. The bonus is you can teach youths to shoot Just a suggestion |
