I am looking to do some refinishing work and I think I have a good idea how to do this due to the other posts here.  The question I have is what steps do you take to prep the item.  This step is often glossed over in the how-to posts.  I am looking for some details including brands and products you have had success with.  Thanks.

Bump, I'm looking for the same info. Especially scope prep.

I imagine it's dependent on what material your refinishing.   I used a stripper on wood to remove what finish was allready on it, then sanded off the rest. Took only a few minutes worth of work.    On a scope I just ruffed it up with some 280 sand paper.  Then taped away.
