I have a post 1943 M38 that has gold paint on the top forearm. Does anyone know why ? Also does a refurbish mark reduce the weapons value?

Only time I have ever seen anything like that was on a pre-1928 91/30 referb and they painted the nose cap gold as well as the brass end caps on the top hand guard rather then cleaning them up and polishing them. Although pictures help when you have odd marking/paint. As for refurbish marks. In the case of mosins most have been refurbished so it don't reduce the value of the rifle. Rather finding the rare one with out marks increase the value but only to collectors.
