I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish here:
As others have said- the front sight is meant to slide left-right (be adjustable for windage) and then locked in place with the set screw. The screw in back of the sight- when you have it in firing position- you see the screw. Loosen it and adjust- it may be tight. BUT BEFORE YOU DO THAT: shoot it. Just shoot it. See if you need to move it at all. Don't fix things that aren't broke. Center the rear sight left-right and shoot it. Adjust the FRONT sight to zero windage and finished. Don't fix things that aren't broke. |

my front sight doesnt even move the screw is stuck and wont move at all so if i need to adjust it i cant do it simple unless theres a way to get the screw to loosen Could someone Loctite the front sight screw? Soak the screw with Liquid Wrench or WD40 and let sit for a day or so. Use correct size allen (sp) wrench and try to unscrew the bolt. If that doesn't work: wipe off all flammable WD40/Liquid Wrench and hit the screw with a propane torch to heat the screw. Try again. Worst case: drill it out. |
| You've been making this whole Garand purchase way more dramatic than necessary. Clean and oil/grease the parts. You can find pics of what needs grease/oil online. Make sure to clean the barrel well. Now, take it to the range and see what it does. Shoot several clips before leaving. Then come back and tell us what happened. If the set screw in the front sight is being difficult, apply some heat to it. You could also apply a good penetrating oil. After you know what you've actually got, come back and everyone here will give you tips and ideas. I really think you're thinking too much. Don't make any modifications until you have taken the rifle out shot her. Happy shooting! |
