You can touch up the aluminum with aluminum black or a black paint pen, if you'd like.  I prefer to grind it away so it 'scoops' the gas from the bottom.  In my mind, it's more effective that way.  Don't try this on some charging handles as this space may be taken up with other mechanical doodads.

I've done that to a few BCM CH but I prefer ambi ones and I don't think it would work

It pretty amazing how hard 7075 is to drill a hole in compared to regular old aluminum

I may go that route. And you have tried the Raptor SD?

The Snatch, right?  What % redirect for gas would you estimate?  20-40% more effective?
I'm not sure how to even guess at a percentage

The little blast that comes out the hole on the side seems to also redirect any ejection port gas away from you
I may go that route. And you have tried the Raptor SD?
I've shot my friends 16" AR with an Omega and Raptor SD but I haven't played with it on multiple rifles like I have some of the others. The Raptor seemed to work well but again i never shot that gun with any other handle to compare it to.

Where on the CH are you drilling holes? Got a pic for reference?

Doesn't have to be the same size bit, just something close that lets some of the gas out.

Thanks, again. I have regular Raptors which I love...hence the press here to see how good the SD's are at gas blowback mitigation

@shwa

That’s exactly how I did it

I’ll find the CH at home and add a picture

Fancy charging handles are a waste of money in my opinion. Unless you need an ambi solution I don't see the point. I just use a standard CH on my Colt/Surefire set up and the blowback isn't an issue.

My setup is:

-Surefire RC2
-11.5 Colt HRT Barrel (.07 GP)
-LMT Enhanced Carrier
-Geissele Super 42 + H3 Buffer
-Geissele ACH

It can still get gassy depending on shooting position, ammo, and ambient conditions but 90% of the time there are no issues. I am curious to try RTV and see what it does and how long it'll last.

Ehhh....a quality charging handle feels vastly different than a USGI handle.

Awesome. Going to give that a go. Seems easy enough.  Thanks!

I have to disagree with you on that. Charging handles like the Gasbuster absolutely reduce blowback and many make the rifle easier to operate as well. Combine a good charging handle with RTV silicone and it makes a big difference in blowback in my experience.

Anyone use the Black River Tactical inserts to tune the gas or is an adjustable gas block the better option for that situation?

I have used them. They work, but they are kind of a pain unless you buy a bunch of them and try them. I have two rifles that I have them in and I had to try a few options before I found one that works. They are good about exchanging them, but it's a lot if shipping back and forth.

Griffin SNACH, Bootleg BCG, and H3 buffer.

No noticeable gas on my 10.3" SBR with Omega 300

I'm a lefty. The Strike Industries Latchless/Ambi handle has worked well on my 10" SBR. I haven't tried it suppressed yet but haven't noticed any gas to the face using a .22 conversion in it yet.
I did add the ISO tab because it has a small footprint.

Thanks! Just got my first stamp back for an OMEGA 300 and looking at options as I have yet to shoot it on anything and saw those inserts were recommended in a few posts on various sites

The Griffin SOB buffer makes quite a difference on it's own. A big difference in ejection too

I put one in a 10.5" that was throwing brass over 15' at 1 o'clock and now it throws brass maybe 4' or 5' at 4 o'clock

I was surprised with the SOB buffer as well.   I had one for a while and never really tested it until recently.  Mine didn't last long in full auto though.  A few 45 round 5.45 mags and it destroyed the bumper and the polymer washer between the body and head mushroomed out of the body.  However, I was impressed with it before I noticed the failures.  Griffin took care of me and sent me a replacement seen on the right.  New design has eliminated that washer.

The internal rubber spacers were also deteriorating as can seen below.

The pin took a beating.  I may replace with a spring pin.

I put the weights in a tumbler and salvaged a standard carbine buffer for replacement internal spacers and a bumper.

I also used a multi-wave disc compression spring between the body and head.

Again, I was impressed with the performance of the buffer.  It has like a triple action buffering design.  I wouldn't go through the trouble of replacing parts if I wasn't impressed with it.

Damn, you really beat that thing up!

I think the wave spring is an great idea if you're using it full auto.

I had ranked it second in my testing for my goals.

I just recently installed mine so I cant speak to its durability.

Like I posted earlier, my 10.5" 5.56 was flinging brass way out there. I paced it off at 18' and about 6' or so forward of the gun (shooting from bench height)

With just the SOB it tamed it to about 5' straight out (again from bench height)
