i finally ordered a suppressor for my 11.5" 5.56 rifle. Im planning on using a Radian SD but would like to look into other options.
has anyone tried multiple brands of charging handles and can compare any of the ones designed to redirect gas? im looking for an ambidextrous charging handle. thanks! -z |

I’ve made my own gas port and used RTV but that was before I properly tuned the gas on my suppressed guns I’ve got two Griffin SNACHs with the built in port but I honestly just think it’s a solid, great feeling charging handle. And that’s compared to a Raptor, a BCM Gunfighter and a Geissele ACH. It just feels really good. No experience with how it handles gas but I imagine fairly well for right handed shooters |

I tried the bootleg carrier for the 1st time today. Used it in a Larue 5.56 with an Omega suppressor with raptor charing handle. Was still gassy AF. Only put 20 rounds through it but had to stop for a second midway through to catch my breath.
Going to try again tomorrow with a PRI handle.

I stand by the Superlative/Rainier blocks I’ve been using for a few years on two rifles and ~4 months on my recent 224V build. They are adjustable from the front and come with a 6” long hex key. So unless you have a pistol length gas with a 15” rail, you’ll be fine. The block also vents excessive pressure and fouling from a port in front next to the tuning screw. I don’t think it’s possible for carbon to jam the screw by design and I haven’t had an issue in many thousands of rounds. They’re around $90 or so, give or take depending on the size you need. I have the Griffin SNACH but literally zero gas returns through it with that setup. I also have a couple rifles with WAR uppers. Similar to adjustable carriers in that the gas is restricted at the gas key (the WAR does it where the gas key meets the gas tube) but the WAR has 3 settings: unsuppressed, suppressed, and no gas (for single shot). They work well but you don’t have the fine tuning that comes from an adjustable gas block, so they likely allow a little more return gas and pressure just to ensure function with a large variety of ammo. The WAR is not ideal if you have a matching upper and lower you don’t want to split up for example. Just some more options/food for thought |

If you're a lefty like me, there's no going around gas to the face without changing out to an adjustable gas block. You should've seen my face after I used a PRI Gasbuster with a RC2.
If you're normal handed, then the PRI Gas Buster is a good choice. Tuning it further with an adjustable carrier or gas block would be ideal. While I realize it's not ambi, they really are the best drop-in solution for avoiding gas to the face. |

I can't see the pics, but assuming you're using the SD handle variant, it's the same combo I run (although I run an RC-2 on that rifle) and have gotten several comments from instructors and other shooters how little gas there is. Omega is a higher backpressure can, but wouldn't think it would kill you like that. Even on the most closed off setting didn't work well? I tried a PRI the next day and it was better. I've been looking around for a decent price on the Raptor SD in FDE. Seem to be about $90 and up if they are in stock. |

You can touch up the aluminum with aluminum black or a black paint pen, if you'd like. I prefer to grind it away so it 'scoops' the gas from the bottom. In my mind, it's more effective that way. Don't try this on some charging handles as this space may be taken up with other mechanical doodads. Attached File Attached File |
