at the risk of sounding like an idiot i have a simple question for everyone................

what exactly is the differance between a "rifle" and a "carbine"?

i think of it as leanth and size.  really its purpose is the real answer.

websters may tell youa small cheap easy to make rifle ( like the M44 or 10/22) but i dont really think an M4 carbine fits that definition.
