In the current situation of reloading supplies, I can't even find a place where I can backorder IMR 4895, IMR 8208 XBR, Varget or other recommend precision reloading powders.

SMKs seem to be available for order from time to time.  When I was ordering last I could only find the Berger bullets, and picked up 175gr BTHP, and 185gr BTHP VLD.

What powders would you recommend that I can backorder?  I've found Winchester 748, Hodgdon BLC-2, and Vihtavouri N150 that are back orderable in 8lb quantities at Sinclair Intl?

I'm doing ladder tests in the next coming weeks for my .308 with varget, imr4895, win 748, n150 and imr4320. I can let you know how it turns out.

Do you have a good load yet or are you just starting the work up?  I have seen stuff locally for sale including Varget, but it is hit or miss.  I have a load I like so I would wait to find the powder I need.  Varget, Reloder 15, imr 4064 work well for me, 4895,not as much though I load it for my m1a.  AA 2520 might also work for you, but I haven't tried it in 308 yet, worked well in heavy 223 though.

IMR4064 would be my first choice.

What gun is it for?  If it's for a bolt action, you have lots of additional choices such as W760, H4350, etc.  The list is really quite long.

Also, if you go extra heavy (190 - 210 gr) or extra light (110 - 135 gr) on the bullet weight, additional options open up for those extremes.

The gun is a Tikka T3 Lite, bolt action.

I don't know what bullet weight you are using but Powder Valley has Vihtavouri Powders in the N1XX and N5XX series that are excellent for 308.  The N1XX powders are "regular" and the N5XX powders are the extra energy types.  Check out N150 and N540.  They are in stock at Powder Valley and had broad applicability to 308W.

Look up the loading data on the VV web site - 308W Loading Data on Vihtavouri web site

Indeed, lots of choices.  Word of caution about TAC... I had pressure signs waaaaay early (like, just past recommended starting charge) while doing a ladder for my 308 bolt gun.  I did NOT proceed with the ladder of course.   It's hot here (Arizona) so I'm sure that had something to do with it, but a perfect example of why you start low and work your way up

With those weight bullets, Alliant PowerPro2000MR and Reloader 17 should work well.  AccurateShooter.com has a nice write-up on RL-17.

How about Re-15?

I can only back order Reloder-15 in 1lb jugs.

I think I'm going to put a back order in for an 8lb jug of N150, and hopefully before I use it all I'll be able to buy powder normally again.

There are many powders that work in 308.  The trick is, very few are actually available right now.  I recommended he look at the Vihtavouri powder because it is available right now at Powder Valley.  That combination is key: usable in 308 AND available now.  There may be other similar combinations out there but I only had time to find one.

A long time ago, I figured out my Remington 700 VS really, really likes H-380 and 169 grain Match Kings. Everyone tells me there are better powders for .308, but you couldn't prove it by my rifle.
H-380 is all over the place around here...Most of the guys I know that use it are loading blazing fast .22-250 loads. But it is excellent in my .308.
This load with CCI-BR2 primers instead of WLR, are on average, .1-.2" smaller groups.
