Pardon my ignorance, guys, but I haven't been around .22s for a long time and was wondering what the difference (if any) there is between a .22 short and a subsonic.  And, second, will a 10/22 handle them without problems?

Thanks,

Subsonic is just any ammo with a muzzle velocity below 1000 FPS.  IIRC.

Shorts are subsonic but they are much slower velocity and quiter.

I know shorts will not cycle the action on a 10/22, but you can work it by hand.  Some subsonics do cycle fine.

Thanks for the clarification.  So now I need to experiment with different subsonics to find what works?  Or are there some guys here that have already been down that path and have some recommendations?

they make a short conversion for the 10/22.

the 40gr CCI subsonics function in my 10/22 and they work great.
