I say go for aluminum, unless you plan on making a habit of battering down doors with the buttstock. Even if you do decide to batter down a door with the buttstock, the strength difference will probably only show up if you strike in a manner that puts side loads on the hinge/lock area.

steel ..............................

i will take steel over aluminum  anyday. but thats my preference.

i would pick the most durable component. is weight that much of an issue?

i have 5 pound carbines and 17lbs rifles. they all have to make the tactical run from the car to the bench then  to the coffee ta ble in the garage

Aluminum. No reason to go with steel on that part and the FAL is a heavy enough rifle to begin with.

I wish my para FAL had an aluminum lower.

For your purposes, you'd be better served with a vegetable based lube that is non-toxic, edible and easily absorbed by the body. You may have to use a bit more than the expensive silicone based stuff, but it's all good.
