Probably a stupid Newbie question,  but I was curious what would happen?

NO!

I think you would get off one shot as normal, then the next 29 rounds in the mag would slam fire. Try it and lets us know what happens...

I doubt it would slam fire in an AR.  More than likely, what happens is the hammer will follow the bolt carrier, and ride it down.  By the time the bolt locks, the hammer will not have enough energy to impact the primer, and will simply be a one shot rifle.  You will have to recharge, eject a good cartridge from the chamber, release, and repeat.

Yes!
But it is a single shot.

No. If you have the proper semi parts, the collar on the firing pin will catch in the notch cut out in th hammer and thus lock it up, but yes its a single shot.

That kind of thinking will get you in trouble
Anyway, that's why they have autosears in M16s, it retards the hammer fall until the bolt is just about %100 in battery.

Actually you could get the gun to operate normally with the disconnector removed, if you installed a AAC rate reducer buffer in the buttstock.  Rate of fire drops to about 650 rpm and you could tap off a single quick shot and get the trigger returned quick enough to catch the hammer.  Without the rate reducer, you will have a straight pull bolt action single shot.
