I need to lube up my garand so I can shoot it for the first time. Can I use white lithium grease from Lucas oil?

It's better than nothing. What viscosity?

It'll work, but I'd look for something better.

I use syn Mobil 1 grease(red) from a tube. It was $3-4 bucks at an auto store.

This, I'm in the same boat, I have some lithium grease but it's not touching the Garand. Just going to stop at the parts store on the way home for some axle grease.

+1 Mobil 1 synthetic is what you seek

I shot my Garand in CMP matches before the AR15 became the go to gun for them. Put thousands of rounds through it with no problems. We all used the white lithium used on car brake parts.

ANY NLGI #2 grease will be perfectly adequate for M1 lubrication, Mobil synthetic is very popular.

Here's a good how to on lubing your Garand. Knowing where and how much to apply is as important as knowing what to use.

Thanks guys. I had a tube of it on hand. But I will get the Mobil stuff. Ready to brake the old girl down and try her out. Already saving for my next one

Any  quality grease is overkill for or babied Garands

Been using the same tube of white lithium grease as well as Ed's Red solvent/lube on my firearms for years with no issues.

I've used it a bunch.  Only issue with white lithium grease is I think it has a tenancy to harden up quicker than some others.  When sitting for a while.  I don't really like it for pistols that I might not be using regularly.

I use ball hitch grease, it's just general purpose.

Yeah, the white lith grease is GTG, even if it is a bit of overkill. Some of the (much) older guys from the old Service Rifle match days have always used it, and guys in the Vintage Rifle matches use it too.

The key, however, is:  after a proper cleaning, don't OVER DO IT with the grease. I've seen guys put way too much on these rifle and it all starts flying off this way and that when they fire them.

A little, in the correct spots, goes a long way.

Go to Amazon.com and get Lubriplate.  It's inexpensive.

I've used white lithium, purple axel bearing grease and some high speed grease by cherry balmz called MA Duece Juice and all worked just fine.

Agreed, my go to is Magnalube-G that I buy from my work by the 1 lb can. I also use this lubricate the hinge points on my Citori 725.

The US Army specified Lubriplate 130 for the M1 Garand and M1 Carbine.  You can find it at Brownells and Amazon.  It's inexpensive.  Why not use the REAL thing?

Because there are better modern lubricants available...

but in the end it doesn't really matter WHAT you use...as long as you have some lube...
