I was pretty sure that I was going to put one of the 20x Super Sniper scopes on my BGA once I had the extra cash floating around. I've heard great things about the Sightron SII line of scopes and can get the 6-24xMildot scope for just a little more than the Super Sniper. I called Sightron and the lady on the phone said it would handle .50bmg just fine but I wonder ? The way she said it I think I could have told her I was mounting it on a 155mm howitzer and she would have said "Oh It will be just fine". I have one of of their cheap 3-9x-40mildot on a K31 rifle and have been very happy with it for a $100 scope. Anybody have expeirence with one on their .50?

I actually had my dealer order it direct from Armalite. I do believe that you can order them direct from the gentlmen that makes them. I believe his name is Darren Prince. I am not sure how to get a hold of him, but I'm sure there will be someone on here that will be able to help you more on that. |
Mr. Prince emailed me back and said Armalite carries them. He did not mention that he sells them directly. It might be an agreement with Armalite for them to advertise them. My dealer can get them from his distributor in 3 days. $200 |

I know the SS is a great scope. The guys on all the forums i read rave about them. About half the posts on ar15.com re: SS's on .50BMGs say they broke after XXX rounds, and about half say they're still going strong. I suppose $300 for a decent scope while I save for a Nightforce would be fine, but I really don't want to shoot the SS to death as I'd love to put it on another murder stick later on down the road. So I'm torn. Buy and SS now and risk blowing it up on a .50, or buy the Nightforce (and the DIY divorce kit) from the start? |
If the SS breaks, SWFA will replace it, so you really don't have much to risk. |

That's probably the dealmaker to me right there. Absolute lifetime warranty on a $300 dollar scope. If all I get is a couple hundred rounds through it before it busts I'll still be very satisfied as long as SWFA fixes or replaces it. I think I read here that some FCSA members did a test and recommended them. Of course Sightron offers that too. To all the SS owners out there, just how good is the glass on these things? I know it ain't gonna be a Nightforce or Leupy Mark IV but is it better than NcStar quality? I plan on doing some 1000 yard shooting eventually and figured it best to go with the 20x. BTW thanks for all the replies I've gotten already. |

Just a humble opinion. A couple of drawbacks to a super sniper scope. A fixed power 20X scope is not my first or 2nd choice on a rifle of any caliber unless it is dedicated to a specific range. The field of view sucks for closer shooting, 100-300 yards. A varable power scope is alot easier on you. Over on the FCSA boards we have duscussed alot of scopes on .50 cals. The super sniper WILL hold up or it will die on you. However, if it dies they WILL replace it. I shoot a nightforce 5.5-22X50 on my AR50, I also have a burris black diamond coming in next week to try. a 8-32X50 Also, do not skimp on the rings. Stick with Badger, armalite, barret or nightforce STEEL rings. Trust me on this. I had a crossbolt fatigue out on a set of burris 6 screw tactical during a .50 cal sanctioned match. Nick |

i would play it safe on this one. although i have no problem spending money on optics, not everyone shares my philosophy... consistent shot to shot placement is paramount. a scope has to be tough and beefy to stand up to a 50 repeatedly. i wouldn't skimp. the SS gets a nod from time to time around here, and i wouldn't consider one lesser for a 50. if you could bump up your budget just a few hundred bucks you'd be better served to shop the used market for a mark 4, nikon tactical, IOR, or something similar IMO. at least the SS is 50 endorsed and they'll warranty it if there is an issue. |
I have one that came on my Barrett. It is Ok except the fixed 10x kinda SUX. I will upgrade in the future to a variable 4200 elite. The 3200 elite is very clear and repeats every time. I am not paying $1000 for glass because I do not shoot competition, just large object for fun. I have no problem hitting tannerite at 300 yards with the 3200 bushnell. |

I realize fixed power scopes, having less moving parts, probably have a better chance of standing up to the punishment of these large rifles. Actually I tend to like fixed power scopes anyhow, but on a rifle that can reach the ranges these things can, I can see where a variable would be a most valuable tool. Does anyone have a list of MFGs whose variables are either BMG rated or whose warranty's include full replacement if the scopes are shot to death? As much as I'd like to own a Nightforce, realistically when I do get my rifle it will be wearing a scope of lesser expensive while more money is saved over time. The SS10 or 20 would be nice, but I'd prefer a variable, I think. |

fcsa.org might be the way to go here. i joined and have learned a great deal. they have a manufacturers index and a magazine subscription to VHP magazine included with access to the forums, etc. i think a 50 shooter would benefit from joining, learning, and participating. they'll certainly have a list of optics that are 50 endorsed. |

I have a SS 16X on my M99 and it works great. I would not hesitate to buy one for a good moderately priced scope. Sightron does have a lifetime warranty and they are bright and clear, but I would be leary of throwing one on a .50. Go with the SS Sledhead------ I thought that model of nightforce was not supposed to be .50 stable? We have one where I work and I eyeball it all the time and would love to throw it on my Barrett. How do you like it? |
SWFA says SS's are 50 stable and will warranty them for life. How can one go wrong? From what I hear and read, the 10x SS's are brighter and clearer than the 16x and 20x. Although I have no complaints about mine either (16x). |
I guess you could say there is a lot of information if you consider a shitty attitude that the writer has along with bias and if you take everything he says at face value. He documents nothing. If you want to know about the current Super Sniper, ask the folks at SWFA. The guy at that website does not even seem to know that the current Super Snipers are being made to the original military specs exclusively for SWFA. He insists on still calling them Tasco scopes. |
