I was looking at getting either a few Yugo mausers or Russian mosin nagants for SHTF and noticed a tag that classified these as Curiou & Relic. So what does that mean? That these are to old to be fired? By the way, which of these rifles do you all suggest would be good to arm a few family members and friends with only basic firearms knowledge? Based on price, reliability, accuracy and ammo availability.

Its means with a C&R ffl (30 dollers for 3 years)

one can get them shipped to your door.

and the curio and relic forum on this site.

It also means that you're gonna go broke like the rest of us did when we got out 03 FFL.

By the way you can get these same rifles a LOT cheaper with an 03 FFL because you can order them directly from the distributor (like Aimsurplus.com or SOG just to name a couple) directly to your door.  There is something satisfying about the BBT bringing pistols and rifles and ammo directly to you.  No NICS check or any of that crap.

You can order the "big" book of C&R weapons from the ATF here www.atf.gov/dcof/index.htm its a list of all the guns classified as C&R.

You can also order the big book of state gun laws from them for free.

Curio- something rare or one of a kind

Relic- Something old or historical

The ATF set up a collector's license for firearms that would qualify as either curio or relic firearms.  Generally, a firearm has to be at least 50 years old, or of historic signifigance to be counted as a C&R.  One of the above links will show you a master list of all C&R firearms.

If you obtain a C&R License, you can send a copy to distributors (like AIM Surplus), and when you purchase a C&R Firearm from them, they ship DIRECT to you. No yellow forms, no background checks!  You only have to keep a log of firearms purchased with your C&R and keep track of their disposition if you sell them at a later time.
