Back when this model was named, it was intended solely for sales to LEOs, it was named the Police Sharp Shooter (no major gun company would be so naive as to name their gun a "sniper" rifle).
Later, as normal folks started to get ahold of these rifles, it was decided that even "Police Sharp Shooter" was too un-PC, and the name was changed to 700P, with the P indicating a Parkerized finish (per Remington), NOT "Police". -Troy |

I admit my trolling on this one, no takers when you announce your intentions I see. (makin mental notes). I'm just not a big fan of Remington rifles, I have heard too many horror stories on their QC and customer service of late. |

Probably Shoots [like] Shyte Police Say "Sorry" (after that errant shot) Pisspoor Sorry System Hey I like Remingtons, I have two "normal" 700s, but their customer service, attitude, and erratic grouping of their rifles (some hit dimes, some group like a shotgun) makes me wanna take the piss outta them once in awhile. |
