I ditched the heavy, long 7.62 ASR Flash Hider on my 20" Grendel because a thread protector just makes it so much more maneuverable and the POI shift is pretty severe with the can on this barrel (accuracy isn't helped either).  Now I'm missing the ability to throw my Specwar762 on for suppressed fun.  I'm thinking of just keeping the adapter secured in the can, and directly threading it to my barrel when I feel like it.  This seems to be the solution that would give me the best of both worlds.  Do any of you ever do this with your cans?  I know that it isn't the "right" way to do it because it won't be loctited on, but I'm not rapid firing this thing and have no issues checking to make sure it's still tight after every 10rds or so.

Take a hack saw to the ports/tines to save an ounce or two
No, I don't do this though

I actually know exactly what you mean Op.

Sometimes i have done that because I have too many different cans and not enough muzzle devices or simply cant decide which suppressor I want to leave on what firearm.   Plus I also do it because some are the Yankee hill mounts that are fugly.

Trust me, I've thought about it.  But I would think that material helps line up the can, too.  Or at least helps make the mounting consistent.
