| Anyone using a Dillon Powder Check in their 550B? I called to order one and the guy said they won't work on the 550B, I asked why and aid there was no place to put it as the 550B only has 4 stations. After I hung up I was setting up my Lee dies in the press and it seemed I had a spare station. Station 1- Sizing/Deprime/Prime, Station 2 - Flare casemouth and powder charge, Station 3- Seat bullet/Crimp, that should leave one station open for the powder check. Am I wrong on this? Thanks in advance, |

Quick answer is that you ideally should seat the bullet first without disturbing the flare in #3,,, then remove the flare in #4. The powder dispenser is right there in front of you, there is no reason for it to get away from you and go empty, and with decent lighting and the cases right there also, you should be able to see a low powder level, or a case with excess amount of powder. EDIT -> I lack proper spelling skills..

Hmm, it seems my Lee die does both seat and crimp. I'll have to take another look at it. The reason I was going to get it was saftey and to double check myself. I read a post somewhere where a guy had a light charge followed by a kaboom. He figured out that he had a bridge in the Dillon powder drop, he was using a stick powder, followed by an overcharge in the next round. He posted that he checked visually each round and caught neither the undercharged or overcharged round. I figured if I could use it it would be a good thing to have. |
