Looking to upgrade the chin strap and padding in my helmet. As it stands now, it has the issued leather sweat band and nylon gear. It fits my dome pretty good right now but would like it a little more comfortable and stable if this is possible.

Any recommendations on what to replace and where to buy from?

Thanks for any advise or suggestions.

Having worn the PASGT with all three types of liners I prefer the USMC version the most over the original webbing or velcro padding system.

Those are hard to find now BTW. It was phased out due to its incompatibility with over-the-head comms systems like the Peltor ComTac, MSA Sordin, etc. With the velcro pads, you can leave a hole for them. Anything for the LWH will fit a PASGT, but you will need to drill new suspension attachment points because the LWH has them anchored in different spots.

I think Oregon Aero  made a bolt in suspension system for it that replaced the strap with a 4 point at the same time. I see if I can find a link. I had on in my old helmet and it was pretty awesome for what it was. It's called the BLSS kit.

I'd dump it and get an ACH.

This kit looks really nice, and you can get it through Amazon which is nice.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

+1

I just bought an ACH on ebay for $105 shipped. If you're patient, you can get a really good deal.

I've seen PASGT's go for $60 to $70.

For the cost of a new suspension system and pads, you're close to the cost of an entirely new helmet.

Does the ACH offer better ballistic protection than the PASGT?

I have an XL PASGT with the Oregon Aero BLSS system that was given to me, darn near new. Fits my big head perfectly even if it is a tad heavy.

I agree it makes the most sense to sell the PASGT in favor of an ACH instead of upgrading it.

An ACH actually offers less protection than a PASGT, due to reduced coverage area, but it's also lighter. The LWH offers the exact same protection as a PASGT, and weighs slightly more than the ACH. The ACH is the best deal simply due to the sheer number of them on the secondary market. It is also favored by SOCOM due to its high compatibility with comms gear, less-restrictive range of head movement (most noticeable when prone), and slightly less baffled directional hearing. The only time you are better-off with the LWH is when comparing stats against shrapnel-producing weapons, and of course, in that instance you'd want all the IIIA coverage you could get. Even MARSOC went with the ACH, and they hate giving up special Marine stuff, especially for something that starts with Army. (The design was originally called MICH).

It's not significantly better protection. Neither is designed to stop rifle rounds (though a few people have gotten lucky). I think the current LWH / ACH is slightly better rated than the old PASGT, but google is failing me at the moment.

There are plenty of reputable companies building PASGT-style helmets and selling them with the "PASGT" name for LE / civilian / foreign mil use, so if you have a new PASGT you may want to do some reading up on who made it and what it's designed for. It's possible you've got something with better protection than a military ACH.

Had one. Upgraded to ACH style pads and chin strap and was a million times better.

I have an NVG mount for sale for the helmet if you're interested. Message me.

I bought a PASGT for $30 a couple of years ago, including shipping.

While I would have liked to have bought a ACH, I have to watch every penny these days.....

A PASGT is better than nothing.

Oregon Aero BLSS kit.  If you're going to wear a PASGT, it IMO the only way to go.  I've worn the various suspension and pad systems that can fit a PASGT or similar helmets and the BLSS kit makes it an all day wearable item for me.
