Looking for my first .45. Satin nickel Colt Combat Commander serial # 70SC85412 sold at a gun show in Louisville KY sometime in 1985. My Avatar, my sweet princess girly girl Maggie. Got a nice 15 years with her, miss her a lot.

I've seen those receivers on gunbroker, and have had the though of building one of these up, but have held off because I needed to do better analysis of what all parts would be needed and cost. |

Bought a parts kit awhile back that had an otherwise good barrel cut sub 18" and Popperts had some virgin receivers so now I have a "Shockwave".  Attached File |

Cost was more than I figured at first, in the end I am happy though. Receiver $70 Magpul Stock/Forend $110 Barrel $150ish Trigger pack $60 Trigger pins $20 Action bar $40 Bolt $60 Total $510 Coating them cost me about $400 for both, I could have found cheaper but have a guy I like that pushes my jobs threw quick. With these older 870s its all about eBay. Tons of older parts and most have the "offer" option. That can save you some good $ in the end. |

There aren't too many scenarios these days where build it yourself is cheaper. Unless you have a specific vision or custom application in mind, the only other benefit to assembling yourself is the spend-over-time. My wife squawks when I drop $750 on a gun. But I can spend $1k in pieces over a few months and she doesn't make a peep. |

Attached File Stamp came in yesterday. Actually removed ssome stuff from the gun this morning because the balance has changed somewhat. Used to have n 18 inch barrel and a plus 2 extension, now 14 and +1 extension. Gun felt out of whack until I took off the Mesa pic rail mount with the RDS and put on the old side saddle. Now thinking about the XS big dot that goes over the bead on an 870 instead of a dot. |

Attached File Attached File Mounted the Inforce, but didn't like the way it stuck out. Used a longer pic rail, and one of the magpul poic rail covers, and it sits level with the back of the light. Also keeps the fingers off the barrel. I guess it'll work for now. Cleaning out my parts bin. |

Picked up yesterday. Switched the bead for an XS big dot tritium and a Vang steel safety for the OEM plastic slider. Also tossed the OEM spring for a Wolff and the thin follower for the Vang version. M1 sling installed, now I’m waiting on a 590A1 trigger pack to get here. Had a leather disc bayonet that didn’t really go with any of the ARs, but looks perfectly at home on the Retro.  Still has some cosmoline type gunk on it that I need to finish cleaning up. Probably treat the leather again too.

Just the tip of the 870 pile. The top is a 870 Express HD that I purchased back when GWB was still in his first term, the middle is the 870 Express Tactical I recently purchased for cheap, and the bottom is my 870 Police that I carried throughout my days as a South Florida patrol officer. Took the new 870 out along with my 500 to the range.  Shoots like what I'd expect from an 870. Which is good. |
