TNVC returned recently to Badlands Tactical in Grandfield, OK for another Nightfighter 101 class. We had a great mix of law enforcement and civilian students in this class which immediately followed a sold out Try Before You Buy event the preceding Friday night.
Badlands Tactical is an amazing venue for us. The host, Bobby, is incredible and cannot do enough to make our, and our students’ experience, simply amazing. The village makes for easy access to the range and offers a great common area for everyone to congregate and talk. There is a lot of learning that occurs with those discussions throughout the weekend.
Our weather for this class was pretty good—high 80s during the day and high 40s at night. We had pretty good illumination for the weekend, about the right amount to make I2 technology work well. We did not get wet either, which is always a bonus!
We saw a wide spread of night vision devices and student experience in class. The varying experience was fun to work with—from novice to very experienced users I think that everyone got something out of the class. We did not experience any goggle or any other night vision related gear failure in the class.
On night one, we saw some trends with regards to switchology on the carbines—mostly associated with practicing and repetition use. Also, some students fought their gear a little bit, and we did see minor changes between night one and two with regards to both hard and soft gear changes. We did spend some of the off time on Sunday helping students with minor tweaks and gear setup which helped them out.
On night two overall, many of those issues we saw on night one were significantly lower.
Most students had a red dot on their handgun, which is a great thing to see and a fun part of the teaching to cover. Makes for easy shooting under NVGs.
We cannot say enough about Bobby. SUPER friendly, eager to make sure that training was going right, and opened their amazing facility to us and our students. Badlands Tactical hosts a lot of great training and events—if you are local to the area, we encourage you to get on their website and check out what they have going on out there.
Additionally, several companies stepped up to offer students swag and door prizes for their attendance. We really appreciate their generosity and are proud to have them associated with our classes.
