Guys, I worked up some loads of TAC with Barnes 53grain TSX bullets. All shot well. The first load of 23.8 grains shot very well with three of my four shots touching. As I moved up to 24.3, 24.8, and 25.3 the groups grew just a little to roughly 1.5". At 25.8 it started shrinking, and at 26.3 my 5 shot group was under an inch. Keep in mind, I was firing quickly...maybe 15 seconds between each shot. One reason the groups swelled could have been shooter error. Is it normal for groups to be tight with a starting charge weight, open up a bit as you work the load up, and then tighten up as you get to max load with TAC...or other powders?Overall I was pretty happy. I'm probably going to focus around the 25.5-26.3 loads and vary seating depth. These loads were all COAL of 2.225"-2.235"...they probably needed to be a big longer. Any insight into the info I have provided? Thanks. Blake |

What you're seeing is common. I wouldn't screw around with trying to tune seating depth, just stick 'em in there at about 2.25 or shorter if they need to be deeper in the case, and press on. Unless the throat is short, I'm betting you won't notice a difference. There's one really good way to find out; try it. |
First and last group were slightly bigger than this...but not much. Too much shade so I couldn't chrono the loads. We'll check that next time. |
