I got a sweet deal on a Dillon 550B today, from a friend of a friend.  Here's the list of what I got:

Dillon 550B Press$395.95
Press Cover$23.95

Tool Heads x4$18.95 ($75.80)
Powder Drop Dies x 4$9.50 ($38.00)
Primer Flip Tray (Old School Brass One)$16.95
Tool Head Stands x4$17.95 ($71.80)

Spare Parts Kit$15.95

1200B Brass Trimmer$209.95
.223 Trim Die for Trimmer$41.95

Auto Powder System*$81.85
Powder Charge Bars x2$25.95 ($51.90)
Auto Primer System*$75.95
4 Large Primer fill tubes$18.95
4 Small Primer fill tubes$18.95
Low Primer Alarm*$22.95
Auto Eject System*$29.95

.223 shellplate and locator buttons$40.95
.338 Win shellplate and locator buttons$40.95
3 1" die lock rings$1.05 ($3.15)
Bench Wrench$6.95
Alan Wrench Set$14.95 (based on Dillon's Official alan set.  These are just a collection of wrenches)

Total:$1297.75
I paid:$350.00

Prices taken from Nov 2008 Blue Press.

The press is old.  It might actually be old enough to be a RL550 that was upgraded to a B model.  Those are the items with the * by them.  So, if I were to buy a new RL550B today with all this stuff, the price would be $1087.05.

No Whammies on this Deal!

(Also, I picked up for another friend a brand new set of RCBS dies and 100 pcs of new, primed NORMA .340 Wthby Mag Brass for....$50!!!  Brass alone would be well over $120, and the dies are $30-40 depending on where you get them.  Awesome deals!)

Auto Powder System*$81.85

Powder Charge Bars x2$25.95 ($51.90)

Auto Primer System*$75.95

Low Primer Alarm*$22.95

Auto Eject System*$29.95

Yeah that comes free with a 550B.

To figure out the date of the press, can you desribe the primer tubes, color of the powder bars, does it have lube holes in the upper pivot arms, describe the powder measure, mine has return springs for the powder charge bar and doesnt have the screws holding the cylinder on the powder measure base.

Here's a couple quick shots, sorry about the harsh flash.  To be honest, only reason I think it's a 550 is the C-Clips on the link arms.  The powder measure doesn't have screws, and has a couple springs wrapped around it for a return mechanism.  The primer tube is black, the pickup tubes are bare aluminum. Charge bar in it is a blackish color, but the other two are a silvery aluminum look Not sure about the lube holes...

You got screwed.  Those presses suck.  I can send you a precision single stage press with all the related gear to replace it if you'd like.  We can swap, even-steven.

It's a Dillon but I don't know how old, my 550 powder system does not look like that

I'm guessing yours is pre-91. We have the same powder measure with no screws, no lube holes, everything else matches except the primer feed bar, mine had a black finish, yours doesnt but it could have been replaced.  I have the C Clips too.

I suggest stripping it down and lubing it real well, especially getting grease on the pivot pins see http://www.ar15.com/content/page.html?id=483

before using it to prevent galling

Great find!  A reasonable deal on a current model Dillon in good condition is 80% of current retail price so your setup is worth about $810 (I subtracted the * items plus the allen wrench set as they come with the 550B).  You saved a realistic $460 minus the cost of shipping it to Dillon for a refurb. and update which I'd definitely recommend.

If there are any charges, they will be nominal and they'll rework it and send it back to you rebuilt, well lubed, and looking almost new.  Because the powder measure update (the Failsafe Rod Assembly) was done for a safety reason, I know that will be a free replacement as others have received it.

mleh, I picked up a complete 550B and 5 sets of dies on the tool heads along with shell holder plates for a Markov 9x18 that I paid $99 for

4 months later I found a complete RL650 with several conversion kits for $300.

Both are in storage until I can out of college though

I reload when I go home though during the summer...

Welcome to the blue koolaid club.

Even better if you can join for half price or less.

For some reason I always thought the 550B had 5 stations...  But after seeing your pictures I went searching to see if the newer version had 5, but I see I was wrong.  Guess I learned something new today already.  Now maybe there's time to learn 2 new somethings.  I wonder what the hell I was thinking of.  Does the 650 have 5? or am I somehow thinking of the number of stations on the Hornady LNL progressive?

It's the 650 you're thinking of.

Ar.. you havent moved to a fully automatic press..

yes his looks like my 500b around early 90's model like everyone is guessing..

Gentlemen, BEHOLD!

I nearly doubled my investment in the press by buying a Strong Mount, Bullet Tray, and the Double cartridge/brass bins.  And, the two calenders, of course!

I actually had the press mounted directly to the bench for the past few days.  It's all setup to crank out some .223.  But, I most likely will setup the .223 on the turret, and get the 550B setup for .45ACP production.
