I did the firing pin mod and when I took it out for a test, every round would stovepipe. There were no FTF and the extractor seemed to be moving well. I'm pretty sure I didn't lose any parts when I did the mod. Ammo was Rem gold hollow point and was from the same box b/4 the mod. I've run about 1500 rnds of this thru the gun without a stovepipe. The weapon was also clean at the time. I'd like to rule out operator error
but it seems like a cause and effect. Any ideas?

I would try a different ammo.

Then I usually try a different mag, although the GSG mags seem to be amazingly consistent.

I agree it's usually mag feed lips or followers that cause this or weak ammo. I did try 2 different mags with the the same results. The mags were left fully loaded for three weeks prior to the test run and I'm wondering if this caused distortion from spring pressure at the feed lips. Unfortunately all four mags I have were loaded like this so I can't measure one for a static comparison. If anyone has a caliper and could measure the indside width of the feed lips and post it I would greatly appreciate it. A mfg tolerance of + or - .005 would probably be normal.

You may have put the that little silver metal piece in the wrong position.  Not sure what that piece is called, it is near the breech opening--piece 93 in the exploded diagram of the "breech body".  Make sure you have it in the position where it is closest to the barrel.

Sorry for the poor description, but if you have it installed in the wrong position you'll have

Part 93 is in proper orientation.

Ok, its more of a proper position than orientation.  There first hole on part 93 should go on the second protruding tab from the back--i.e. the first tab should be left open.

The next time I open my GSG I think I'm going to do the firing pin mod.  Even with the newest pin/spring, I still get about 1 FTF per mag.  If you mod the firing pin such that it sticks out too far, do you think than can cause stovepiping?

I don't think so because the spring still causes it to return b/4 (hopefully) the bolt travels rearward. I only took off about .010 and 4 coils off the spring. The spent casings don't look excessively deep.

No problem; I had the same thing happen to me.  I'm not sure why the ejector is able to go in two different ways, or why the actual position is the correct position.  Oh well, as long as it works.

Did you file 0.01" off of 'part A' as shown in the modification?  Is that all you filed/cut (in addition to the spring)?  After you put a few hundred rounds through can you post to tell if that fixes the FTF's?

I did the the complete mod of areas A,B,C .  I didn't actually measure anything, it looked like .010 - .012. I'm pretty comfortable saying that because I deal with much tighter tolerances all the time and can usually see a .002 variation but I can't see to put the ejector in the right hole. Go figure. Anyway, the depth of the pin strike looked similar to the Federal casing in the mod. I will post after the weekend when I shoot it but expect to have a few FTF anyway because the Rem Gold hollowpoint seems to have a little inconsistency in the primers, but nothing like it was (1-3 per mag).
