Ok, while looking for a HK91 style rifle I keep coming across these rifles made by Springfield Armory, SAR 8's.  They seem pretty $$ but look really good.  Some people tell me they were made in Greece?  How are these rifles?  Anyuone haveone/shot one/have an opinion on them??

thanks

These were made by EBO under lic of H&K. They are a military supplier. Quality is first rate. Parts 100% change out with H&K and FMP guns. The fit and finish is slightly above factory FMP guns.

Also note Springfield Inc made a run of SAR 8's with aluminum rec's and they are not in the same league...

How can you tell the difference in the Springfields that are desireable and those that are not so?  Were all of them produced as preban rifles?  thanks

There are pre and post ban SAR 8's.Early guns were called SAR 3's. The pre would be most desirable. The post will have a thumbhole stock and a fake "flash hider" flush with the muzzle. You will have to do the required number of USA made parts if you want to fit a pistol grip (922r). There was also a heavy barrel "Tactical" postban model that would go for a premium if you could find one (only a few were imported before the door was shut).

The later alum rec models could never be confused with the steel rec's. Federal Arms Corp marketed these rec's and still sell them IIRC.

One of the H&K sites would be a good place to go for more indepth info due to the amount of hardcore enthusiasts that would hang out there...

Oh, and be very aware of "fake" preban models. You should be able to verify pre/post status with a call to Springfield Inc with serial #.

The steel-receivered Greek SAR8s are the only 91 clones that are 99% as good as the original.  Spend the money, you won't regret it.
