Does anyone know much about these rifles? I am looking for just a simple and light weapon to carry backpacking and put in the car. It will mostly be used for plinking but maybe some small game if needed. If not this rifle any suggestions? Thanks, Kyle |
Had one of the .22 hornet/.410 combos.Neat little piece, however I could never get used to the odd trigger. The second time I took it out to shoot with a friend of mine,I shot a nice little cloverleaf shaped 1/2" group @ 50 yrds with factory ammo, and he offered me 100 dollars on the spot.I had paid much less than that for it cause the gunshop I work for got it for free when he became a springfield armory dealer I told him,but he kept looking at that target and saying I dont care.Ok.

| You would be far better off packing its weight in PowerBars. I had one of the .22lr/.410 parkerized models. The trigger was so horrendous, combined with the non-existent ergonomics and cheesy sights, that off hand hunting was out of the question. No kidding. You will find it nearly impossible to take out a squirrel at any range with the .22lr. The Marlin Papoose is a more accurate option, but no shotgun. Likewise, some of the new AR7s are supposed to be decent, though less accurate then the Papoose. I can honestly say that I shoot better groups standing with a Ruger MKII than any of these "rifles". |
I agree. Much better options out there for the same money or a little such as New England single shots or a Henry Lever action used. |

Don't know if the newer models are poor shooters, my old Springfield Armory .22/410 shoots great. Used it one night at the trap shoot for fun, scored 15 out of 25...not too bad for a survival gun. The .22 barrel shoots just as accurately as any other rifle I have with open sights. The trigger is unusual, but with practice, no problem...squeeze just like any other. Somewhere, there's a website devoted to the rifle, do a search. Great camping gun, super colibris sound like a red-ryder bb gun, pop cans all day, with no noise, buckshot, and you've got an adequate close range defense gun (albeit a single shot, with a .22 backup, also single shot). If I lost mine, I'd buy another, and yes, I do have a Marlin Papoose...but it's just a .22. |
