I think I remember seeing someone mention that springfield upper handguards/heat shields are prone to over heating. Believe me, I felt that shit today. It was pretty hot after 60 rounds, is it normal and is a new cover recommended?

the first time i went out shooting my M1A it was with the factory handguards and stock.  I bumped a few mags and it was smoking from under the guards, BUT it's tough to tell because it was raining at the time and it may have had more to do with the weather than anything else

Was it really hot when you touched it?

yep... guns tend to get hot when you shoot them, especially ones with a big powder charge

REALLY?!?!?

I just figured it was hotter than it normally should be.

For example when I shoot an AR, the handguards get warm but never as hot as the my M1A's does.
