Hey guys, I've got a few different slugs here, and I want a way to test comparative penetration, cheaply. Any recommendations as to what to shoot so I can see penetration? I was thinking a few phone books back-to-back would be a good test. God knows we've got plenty of those damn things.

And now for eye candy, because it's slightly relevant, and I'm proud of that shot from 10 yards lol...

My Droid1 shot with a 2-3/4" Remington Slugger... Yes, that's wood stuck in the back from the log I had it sat up against.

I suppose that'd work better than phonebooks. Probably much clearer results.

If you really want to compare, there are about a zillion real-world examples out there already in real(and very expensive) ballistic gel.

But for giggles if I'm doing it myself, I just line up milk jugs filled with water. Just have a safe backdrop since a slug/bullet can sometimes exit the side or top of the containers and go on it's merry way.

I haven't done a 12g slug in water but I'd have to guess 12 plastic jugs taped together with a bunch of sandbags/phonebooks in the back to catch any remnants.

Oh yeah, bring a raincoat.

I think the water jugs or milk jugs filled with water are about the closest you can get to ballistic gelatin for cheap.
