I plan on picking up a Sig 556 Classic hopefully next week, the rifle comes with the Sig dot sight. What's your opinion on this sight? The dealer says that they'll take $200 off of the price if I let them keep the sight.

Thoughts/Opinions?

Most of the opinions I have read about the Sig branded red dot sight are negative, like NCStar level quality. However I just got a Classic recently and the sight is not as bad as I had been led to believe.   I have an EOTech on one rifle and an Aimpoint on the other and I can tell you it is DEFINITELY not that level of quality.  However it feels fairly solid and the dot is bright, brighter than I expected and they claim its a no parallax optic.  It is definitely higher quality than the NCStar devices I have seen.  In my opinion it seems more of a sporting type device as opposed to a rugged battle/military optic.  I have not had the chance to use it in action yet so you may want to gather some other opinions, but I would call it "fair" at best.

..but do you think it's worth $200?

The gun will have to have an optic either way and I could pull the Acog off of my STG-556 and put the micro dot on the STG but if the dot really is crap then I'll just let them keep the dot and buy a basic M2 or another 512.

No, not worth $200 in my opinion.  Not when you get a 2nd hand quality optic for another $100.

Had one...came with a 556P.  I was not impressed so I am selling it.  I watched a couple web sites and didn't see any of them going for $200.  Take the discount and buy yourself something better.

Hell yeah, take the discount. It's a low quality Chinese piece of shit that only has artificial value because it has SIG stamped on it. I can't remember the company that made it offhand, I had the link saved before I reformatted, but it's a budget optics company like NCStar. Save the cash and save for a regular Aimpoint or a real Aimpoint Micro.

I didn't like mine, came on a 556P. The guns' now SBR'd and wearing an EoTech 512. I sold the RDS on Gunbroker for about $150. Take the discount.

Mine works great on a .22, but has no bidness on a centerfire rifle.

I also haven't heard much good about that optic.  I wouldn't get one for any kind of serious use.

Another poor move by SIG.  When will they learn?

Take the $200.

Take the $200 buck, my optic will not adjust correctly, and Sig never returned my e mail. Guess it's time to call them.

I'm thinking of getting the new Burris 3x32 AR sight for my Sig.

The glass cracked on my brothers within a couple weeks of buying his SIG.  yes, he bumped it, so can't completely blame SIG, though it would be nice if it were a little less fragile.

Speaking of this.. is there any kind of life-time no-fault warrantee on this I should know about?

For $200 no question.  I say the tipping point is around $125...

I disagree. Wasting $125 is pointless. Put that $125 towards ammo and learn to use your irons more effectively -OR- put that $125 towards some good glass, buying crap just because you can makes no sense to me. If you need a cheap RDS for a .22 or something, you can find them much cheaper than $125.

One came with my 556 Classic.  As best as I can tell, the mount is made from cheap 2000 series aluminum or pot metal.  It stripped its threads the first time it was mounted, and SIG would not return messages about it.  It is crap.

I emailed Sig about my optics not adjusting correctly, never heard back from them. Monday I will give them a call, see if I can get it sent back, maybe trade for their rear sight.

$200!

No question. I hope you took the $$$ and purchase a real sight.

I'm trying to make this factory P556 work for me but it needs a riser...

I'm thinking of selling it instead.

They sold the rifle before I had a chance to pick it up (My SCAR came in before I expected it to) but I'm probably going to pick up an early 556 in a trade next week,

Nice

I actually shot a 556 SBR today, damn nice but a little front heavy with the rail system (it was a pistol that was converted to an SBR)
