I just put on layaway today a repro 1861 Springfield. I have never shot black powder and this is my first foray into it. I am very excited! Anyways, what do I need to shoot, maintain, and have to operate and keep it operating? I hate being a newb, but here I am. Maybe you can point me to sites that list all the tools, solvents, etc. I will need? Thanks in advance.

I highly recommend Lyman's Black Powder Handbook.

Also, Dixie Gunworks' catalog has an extensive reference section in the back.

I like to use Thompson Center bore butter to help clean my black powder rifles
